Position Overview
Calico seeks an experienced research scientist to lead a dynamic team in the discovery and development of novel therapeutics to address age-related diseases and ultimately aging itself. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in the field of aging and age-related diseases and impact the future of healthcare. While no specific research area of focus is required, we are seeking an individual who has made significant scientific contributions to their field of interest and whose research focus is one other than Oncology or the Neurosciences. The successful candidate will be the group leader to a team of scientists tasked with discovering new therapeutic targets, validating targets, and championing the development of novel therapeutics to these targets. The Senior Director of Translational Medicine is expected to lead an independent, productive research group in a fully funded, highly collaborative research environment with support from state-of-the art technology labs, including biochemistry, genomics, mass spectrometry, microscopy, preclinical imaging, mouse physiology, data science and machine learning. The Senior Director of Translational Medicine will be part of the larger scientific community at Calico and will be encouraged to actively engage in academic collaborations and to publish their work. This position reports directly to the Head of Drug Development. Furthermore, the Senior Director of Translational Medicine is part of the Drug Development Leadership Team participating in key strategic decisions for Calico’s Drug Development program.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead Drug Development Programs:
- Design and execute a research program seeking to identify novel targets
- Design and execute experiments to validate potential new targets
- Drive the development of novel therapeutic strategies and interventions
- Provide scientific and strategic leadership to cross-functional project teams
- Oversee project timelines, budgets, and milestones to ensure successful execution
- Stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements and integrate relevant findings into drug development strategies
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal and external partners, including academic institutions and industry collaborators, to advance research goals
- Foster a collaborative and innovative research environment
- Data Analysis and Interpretation:
- Analyze experimental data and draw meaningful conclusions to guide research directions
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications and presentations
- Leadership:
- Mentor and lead a team of scientists, providing scientific guidance and fostering professional development
- Nurture a culture of scientific excellence, innovation, and collaboration
- Play an integral role as a member of the Drug Development Leadership Team
- MD/PhD, MD or PhD with a strong research background and clinical acumen
- Proven track record of laboratory research either in industry or academia
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners
- Must be willing to work onsite at least four days per week
Salary : $280,000 - $290,000
