Overview
The HR Generalist will be a champion of Califia’s values, a partner to the business, and a valuable resource for Califia as a representative of the HR team. This position is based at the Bakersfield (Lerdo) plant and will perform the routine functions of the Human Resources department including maintaining the data in the HRIS system, supporting the administration of the company’s HR programs (benefits, performance management, staffing, training, DEI) and day-to-day administration of the company policies and procedures. This position will play a critical role in the development and establishment of an integrated and robust HR function that supports a high-performance, engaged, and healthy work culture.
Responsibilities
- Serve as partner to the team leaders and resource for employees based out of work site, includes regularly walking throughout the plant.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing and maintenance of data in the HR Information Systems (Paycom) and safeguarding personal and confidential information
- Act as subject matter expert and administrator of HR activities, policies, benefits, and other company programs, including assisting in developing and implementing new HR policies and programs in order to serve and support Lerdo Plant supervisors/managers and employees.
- Serve as the Lerdo Plant HR lead for hourly staffing activities by working cross-functionally for job openings, including the coordination of phone screens, interviews, pre-employment background checks and new-hire orientation.
- Maintain a positive and effective working relationship with our current temporary employment agencies, ensuring clear communication to provide timely support for our plant needs.
- Serve as a point of contact for all employee inquiries and properly direct concerns as appropriate
- Communicate company policies, procedures, and benefit information to employees including the maintenance of all legal posting requirements
- Support with the review and approval process for disciplinary action related to both performance and attendance of our frontline hourly employees.
- Maintain personnel files and records, according to internal practices and all legal compliance requirements
- Provide HR support for employee changes, leaves of absences, and offboarding processes
- Provide support for accurate and timely payroll and timekeeping processes.
- Prepare regular and special reports, including developing analytics and insights based on data from numerous sources
- Serve as the lead for the assignment and completion of the training at the Lerdo Plant
- Support employee investigations and employee relations matters
- Provide HR support benefits education and administration.
- Assist with the coordination of cultural events and fostering an environment that aligns with the mission and values of Califia Farms, such as through the Employee Engagement Committee.
- Respond to employment verification requests, EDD forms, garnishments received from payroll department and other correspondence.
- Provide excellent customer service to employees, external partners and vendors
- Provide additional support to Front Desk and ensure coverage of Plant Office Administrator absences and other departments as necessary
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
- Recruitment / Staffing – familiarity of overall recruitment process, experience in speaking with internal and external customers for recruitment efforts.

- Physical Requirements – Ability to lift to 25 pounds and is comfortable walking and standing for extended periods in a noisy plant environment and required to comply with Plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Preferred Qualifications
- Human Resource Certification a plus

The expected salary range for this position is between $65,000 - $80,000 per year based on a full-time schedule. Location, confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting the actual salary.
