What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Safety Services position at California Baptist University?
Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates all law enforcement and community service programs and activities for security of the campus, ensuring enforcement of all local, state, and federal laws and adherence to university policies and procedures. Promulgates rules and regulations for department as designated by applicable code. Coordinates and administers daily activities through subordinates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Design, develop, implement, and manage services and programs, which support and respond to the safety and security needs of the university community.
2. Develop and implement department goals, objectives, policies and procedures, and oversee the maintenance of a comprehensive statistical data reporting system to ensure the department’s compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws; monitor and evaluate program effectiveness; effect changes required for improvement.
3. Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives; recruit, employ, train, supervise, and evaluate unit staff.
4. Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with local law enforcement agencies in the prevention, control, and investigation of illegal activities directed against the university.
5. File reports, observe, collect, preserve, and record physical and oral evidence of crimes and incidents committed on university property.
6. Serve as the Disaster Preparedness Plan Coordinator.
7. Publish the University’s Annual Security Report, per Campus Security Act – 1990 (Public Law 101-542), and subsequent revisions, requirements.
Maintain budgetary control for the Public Safety Department
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervise employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; developing appropriate departmental procedures, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

§ Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

§ Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or 5 to 7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with the Campus Security Act – 1990, Injury Illness Prevention, Disaster Preparedness, as relevant to the post-secondary educational field.
