Job Description :
The Senior Cyber Range Engineer will be an integral part of the Event and Mission Rehearsal Team, responsible for defining and executing event objectives. This role provides expert guidance on cyber range development and execution, systems administration, cybersecurity, and account management support for the Joint Cyber Training Enterprise (JCTE).
Essential Job Functions :
Lead and provide technical expertise to support large-scale cyber exercises and multi-spectrum cyber operations.
Serve as the principal advisor for cyber range operations supporting Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) and Offensive Cyber Operations (OCO) activities for the U.S. Cyber Command (USCC).
Oversee a team of cyber engineers, offering expertise to enable DCO and OCO operations, and manage various programs within the JCTE.
Required Skills :
Intermediate knowledge of the JELC, which provides a structured framework for planning, executing, and assessing joint military exercises.
Intermediate understanding of defensive and offensive cyber tools.
Advanced knowledge of networking, including DNS, routing, and TCP / IP troubleshooting.
Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Security Onion, and VMware.
Understanding of RHEL Identity Management (IdM) and Single Sign-On (SSO) using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).
Ability to translate cyber mission force training and mission rehearsal goals into actionable event environments.
Drive continuous process improvement across all event activities.
Provide expert-level IT, virtual environment, and network support functions.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with a diverse team of engineers.
Adaptable to the evolving needs and requirements of the customer.
Desired Skills :
Understanding of DNS components such as Authoritative vs. Recursive servers, SOA, NS, MX, A, and CNAME records.
Knowledge of routing protocols like OSPF, BGP, and related configurations.
Experience with Exchange servers, including edge servers, mailbox management, and client auto-configuration.
Familiarity with Security Onion or Splunk for enterprise configurations and monitoring.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a focus on teamwork.
Capability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.
Experience interacting with vendors, users, customers, and developers to understand operational requirements and changes.
Ability to address technical issues involving integrated software and hardware platforms.
Required Education / Experience :
8 years in Computer Network Operations (CNO), Computer Network Exploitation (CNE), or Computer Network Defense (CND) platforms.
5 years in cyber training, validation exercises, and collaboration with Cyber Protection Teams (CPTs), including planning and execution.
Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification (e.g., Security , CCNA, CISSP).
Associate's degree in a technical discipline such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems, or Software Engineering from an accredited institution.
