Under the professional direction of the Director of Early Learning, it is the responsibility of the Assistant Director to share leadership in the development and implementation of district-wide early learning vision and goals; to plan, organize, manage, and direct the programs within the child development services division; to plan, organize, coordinate, and manage instructional program design and delivery for child development program students including preschool and afterschool care; to provide professional development activities to faculty and staff in the department; to be responsible for the recruitment and evaluation of faculty and staff; to assist in the planning, development and implementation of local, state and federal mandates related to child development services; and to perform other related functions as directed.

Possess, or qualify for, a valid Child Development Program Director Permit, or a California Administrative Services Credential, or other permit or credential that authorizes service in supervision and administration of multiple children's center sites.
The Child Development Services (CDS) department serves students through many programs, including the Infant/Toddler Center (ITC), part and full-day Preschool programs in Santa Monica and Malibu, and our School Age after-school program for students in grades TK - 3 in Santa Monica. For ITC and Preschool, the department enrolls children living in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and its surrounding areas. Our after-school students participate at their elementary schools. CDS provides services that are fee-based and state-subsidized to best support the various needs of the community. Our teachers and staff are fully qualified and engage in regular professional development to hone their craft. As a department, CDS prioritizes the district's focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, belonging, curiosity, and empowerment for all children in our care.
