DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the cafeteria manager and/or Superintendent designee, to maintain school cafeteria accounting records; sell milk and meals; perform other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Personnel in this classification may perform any combination of the essential duties shown below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principle job elements.
Collects tickets and /or money for meals and /or milk.
Knowledge of
Practices and procedures of mathematical concepts, basic bookkeeping and clerical work
Effective and efficient communication techniques, strategies and procedures
Understand food service terminology, basic procedures, appliances and equipment
Proper methods for preparation and serving of food
Proper sanitation and safety practices
Ability to
Accurately perform basic mathematical computations
Accurately compile and reconcile data and information, and prepare financial and other food service related reports
Accurately collect money and make change
Communicate effectively in oral and written form
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, parents, co-workers and faculty
Operate and maintain food service related equipment
Work efficiently and effectively
Perform all duties as described and other related duties as required

Education
Twelfth grade diploma or the equivalent
Experience
One-year responsible experience in a paid or volunteer financial environment
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid California drivers license
Serv Safe Certification (may be obtained after employment but within required timeline)
Conditions of Employment: Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier. Employment is contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result, and Department of Motor Vehicles clearance.

- Operates food sales computer, records daily sales and cash deposits with accurate reconciliation, prepares weekly and monthly audit sheets, and files end-of-month reports.
- Notifies parents when pupils need to deposit further funding
- Collects all outstanding money owed to the food service account.
- Assists with supervision of pupils in the cafeteria setting.
- Handles a variety of equipment used in the presentation of serving fresh or packaged sandwiches, salads, relishes, hot entrees and a variety of other foods.
- Check for proper food temperature, as applicable to transport and during preparation and on the serving line.
- Serves and sells hot and cold foods, salads, beverages, desserts and snacks.
- May assist in minor food preparation , for example, side dishes such as vegetables, salads, salad dressings and desserts
- Assist in maintaining the food service facility in a safe, clean and sanitary condition including, but not limited to, the preparation and serving area as well as the wiping down of the student tables.
- Ability to perform essential duties without direct supervision.
- Performs other duties as required.
