DEFINITION
Under direct supervision of the cafeteria manager, to prepare and package school lunches for distribution within the district; and to do other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Personnel in this classification may perform any combination of the essential duties shown below. Knowledge of
Methods, procedures and techniques of cooking and baking in large quantities
Basic methods of preparing and serving food in large quantities
Standard food service appliances and equipment
Basic mathematical concepts
Personal and institutional hygiene
General sanitation and safety procedures
Ability to
Skillfully cook and bake
Adhere to large quantity food production and preparation standards
Correctly apply appropriate nutrition guidelines, dietary requirements and alternative food sources
Lift and transport foodstuffs, materials and supplies
Accurately complete daily transport sheets
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships students, parents, co-workers and faculty
Operate a variety of food service equipment
Work quickly and efficiently

Experience And Education
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Education
Twelfth grade diploma or the equivalent
Experience
Responsible experience in quantity baking and/or cooking in a food service facility whether commercial, institutional, or school food service facility
Some Experience Preferred But Not Required
Special Requirements
Possession of valid California drivers license.
Serv Safe Certification (may be obtained after employment but within required timeline)
Conditions of Employment: Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier. Employment is contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result, and Department of Motor Vehicles clearance.

- Assist in the preparation of vegetables and other foods for cooking
- Store food and kitchen related items as needed
- Scrape and wash dishes, utensils and trays
- Clean serving counters, preparation areas, food containers and other equipment
- Operate automatic dishwasher and washes trays, plates, utensils, and other serving equipment
- Clean and store kitchen equipment
- Assist in maintaining the food service facility in a safe, clean and sanitary condition including, but not limited to, the preparation and serving area as well as the wiping down of the student tables
- Heat, set up, serve food to students and faculty
- Check for proper food temperature, as applicable to transport, during preparation and on the serving line
- Handle and dispose of refuse, using proper techniques and adhering to guidelines
- Set up steam table and serving line
- Assist in the serving and distribution of food
- Perform essential duties without direct supervision
- Complete necessary paper work.
- Perform other duties as required.

- Perceiving the nature of sounds, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment and handle and work with various materials and objects which are important aspects of this job.
