LOCATION AND WORK SCHEDULE: This is a permanent, full-time, 12 months per year assignment in the Maintenance Department.
Hours of assignment: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
DEFINITION OF POSITION
Under supervision, to perform semiskilled and skilled maintenance, repair and construction tasks in the upkeep of school facilities; to perform semiskilled and skilled functions in one or more of the basic building and maintenance trades; and to perform other related work as required.
Summary Of Duties

Education and experience
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and one year performing a variety of maintenance work in one or more of the building maintenance trades.
Knowledge of
Basic methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and construction work; rules, regulations and operational procedures pertaining to the repair, maintenance and construction of school buildings, machines and equipment; safe working methods and procedures.
Ability to
Skillfully use a variety of tools and equipment utilized in the basic maintenance trades; work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches; maintain simple records and prepare reports; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
LICENSE
Valid California Class C Driver's License.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment
Indoor and outdoor work environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.
Physical Demands
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety maintenance equipment and tools; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform maintenance work; walking or standing for extended periods of time; lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching; heavy physical labor; climbing ladders.
Hazards
Working at heights; exposure to fumes.

- Under general supervision, performs semiskilled and skilled maintenance, repair and construction work in the basic trades, such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, heating and locksmith work;
- Assists or performs a variety of functions in the construction, installation, maintenance of roofs, furniture, fences, playground equipment, cabinets, shelving, chalkboards, bulletin boards and a variety of other structures;
- Assists in the installation, repair and maintenance of gas and water lines;
- Installs and repairs and maintains electrical equipment and a variety of apparatus and devices;
- Assists in the repair maintenance of heating, ventilation and cooling equipment; replaces and repairs floor and ceiling tile;
- Assists in the installation, repair and maintenance of door locks and closures;
- Prepares surfaces, mixes paints and finishes a variety of equipment, furniture, school and physical structures;
- May weld metal parts together using gas and arc welding processes;
- May operate equipment, such as light truck, tractors and other related motorized equipment;
- Perform related duties as assigned.
