This temporary, part-time tutor position runs from September 2024 to May 2025, with a focus on providing 1:1 tutoring sessions. The selected candidate will work 10-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 3 to 6 PM. Sessions will take place in students' homes or local libraries across East County. Applicants are required to submit the following documents with their online application in PDF format: 1. Current resume 2. A letter of introduction explaining your interest in this position 3. One (1) current letter of recommendation (dated within the last year) REQUIREMENTS: Candidates for this position must possess the following: • Any combination equivalent to an associate degree in education or a related field and two (2) years of experience providing instructional assistance or tutorial experience • Computer skills using computer applications such as Word and Excel and distance learning platforms preferred • Experience working with multi-cultural, multi-lingual populations with sensitivity to the needs of families and children in transition is preferred The following questions are included in the online application and those applications that do not have answers included will not be considered. Under general supervision, schedules and coordinates student assessments; provides remedial tutoring in small groups or individually in various subject areas; prepares students to receive their General Equivalency Degree (GED); and performs related duties as assigned. The Youth Services program assists with the educational needs of students residing in Contra Costa County. Staff in this classification provide tutoring for foster youth, youth facing homelessness, justice involved youth, and students with disabilities in grades K-12, both individually and in groups. Tutor will provide remedial tutoring in person to small groups or individuals in various subject areas such a reading, basic math, writing skills and vocational skills, assist English Language Learner (ELL); monitors students to ensure understanding of material being presented; answer student questions and communicate with a variety of personnel. Tutor will take student attendance, review and record student assignments, explain a variety of concepts, techniques and ideas related to assigned. Individuals with experience tutoring high school level math are strongly encouraged to apply. Bilingual language skills (English/Spanish) are highly desirable.
