Job Description And Duties

As an Associate Budget Analyst at DIR, you will be provided with extremely valuable State budget experience, and an extensive variety of work assignments. Under general direction of the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) in the Office of Fiscal Services (OFS), Budget Office, the Associate Budget Analyst performs the more responsible and complex analytical assignments related to the coordination, development, review and administration of the budget for DIR. The Associate Budget Analyst provides involved technical direction and consultative service to one or more complex programs including the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of their budgets.

Working Conditions

This office will be relocating in December 2025, to the renovated New Labor Agency Building in Downtown Sacramento, at 1416 9th Street.

This position is located in:

Sacramento, CA

The incumbent works 40 hours per week in a cubicle in an office setting that is air-conditioned with elevator access and natural and artificial lighting. Typical work requires prolonged use of a computer, calculator, and telephone, as well as interaction with co-workers. Travel may occasionally be required for meetings, training, etc. Partial telework is available as approved by the Department.

Special Requirements

A STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS (SOQ) IS REQUIRED. Only complete applications that include an SOQ will be reviewed and only the most qualified candidates will be interviewed. Resumes and Cover Letters do not take the place of the SOQ.

The SOQ must be in Arial font, be limited to no more than two (2) pages, and provide direct responses to all of the numbered items listed below. Each individual response must be numbered and include the full text of the numbered item below prior to the response.

  • Providing specific examples and your number of years of experience, please describe your skills and knowledge in: developing and maintaining budget allocations; forecasting expenditures and/or revenues; and providing advice or making presentations to management.
  • Describe your knowledge, skills, and number of years of experience analyzing or developing the fiscal or economic impact of proposed legislation and/or regulations (rulemaking).
  • Describe your knowledge, skills, and number of years of experience analyzing and/or developing budget change proposals.
  • Describe your proficiency and number of years of experience using Microsoft Excel. Include your training, experience, and skills with using Microsoft Excel to manipulate, analyze, and present data to complete assignments.
