The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is seeking two dynamic psychologists to lead trauma-informed training, professional development, and critical incident response programs. The Office of Policy and Planning (OPP) is committed to promoting transformative policy and systems change to advance equity, prevention, and public health improvement. OPP leads the charge in trauma mitigation, grants management, decision intelligence, and integrated planning to support CDPH's mission of achieving health equity across California.

This role involves developing and delivering evidence-based trauma-informed training programs, conducting needs assessments, and building internal capacity through a "train-the-trainer" model. Additionally, it includes planning and managing CDPH’s Critical Incident Response Program to support staff impacted by trauma, while promoting resilience and stress management. The position also requires collaboration with stakeholders to foster a trauma-responsive culture and advance CDPH’s mission as a healing and impactful organization.

This is a benefitted, temporary, nine (9) month, full-time position. The selected candidate will work a hybrid, onsite-travel and telework schedule and be headquartered in one of the following cities nearest to the candidate’s residence : Sacramento, Richmond, San Bernardino, Ontario, San Diego, Santa Ana, Orange, Brea, Long Beach, Glendale, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, or Oxnard.

The ideal candidate will have :

  • Possession of, or be in process of possessing, a valid license as a psychologist by the California Board of Psychology
  • A doctorate degree in psychology
  • Knowledge and expertise in trauma-responsive engagement and communication
  • Three years of experience in the practice of psychology involving training, research, consultation, or program planning in mental health services
  • Experience in developing, designing and delivering professional development and training programs for diverse audiences
  • Ability to use evidence-based practices and apply engaging and interactive training, facilitating, supporting and coaching techniques
  • Experience providing consultation to individuals impacted by chronic or acute critical incidents or traumatic events
