What are the responsibilities and job description for the ATTORNEY III position at California Energy Commission?
The California Energy Commission seeks an Attorney III in the Chief Counsel’s Office. The Chief Counsel’s Office is a full-service law office involved in all phases of Commission activity, and attorneys have an opportunity to work directly and closely with the state’s principal energy policymakers.
Under the general supervision of an Assistant Chief Counsel and the general direction of the Chief Counsel, the Attorney III will be responsible for advising the Commission on transactional matters, including contracts, grants, and loans and the non-competitive or competitive processes to award them. In the Transactions Unit, attorneys review and draft legislation, regulations, solicitations and resulting agreements, including terms and conditions; provide advice on compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act and other laws; work with the Attorney General’s Office on litigation over transactional agreements; and represent the Commission in administrative proceedings.

Working Conditions
This position provides hybrid telework opportunities, with employees required to work in-person at least two days per week. Beginning July 1, 2025, all employees may be required to work in-person at least four days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25.
Occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance.
Teleworking is only available for employees who reside in California. You must be relocated to California and provide your in-state address prior to your start date.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
