Position Overview:
DIRECT CARE LEAD STAFF Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Administrator, and the Individual in the recruitment, hiring and training of the Direct Support Professionals (DSP).
- Assist the Administrator in assuring that all programs meet all licensing requirements and fire and safety codes.
- Assist the Administrator in assuring that all programs meet all requirements of the Department of Developmental Disabilities and Regional Center
- Responsible to ensure that all documentation is current and in compliance with regulations.
- Responsible to assure that all programs are normalized meeting Individual’s choices, interest and preferences.
- Responsible to assure that all programs are conducted within a safe environment.
- Supervise direct support professionals with self-help needs, hygiene and personal care.
- Maintain up to date emergency procedures.
- Responsible for personnel allocation of shift duties and job functions.
- Act as an advocate for Individual’s and their families. Is a mandated reporter.
- Attend all required meetings and training’s.
- Assure that Individual’s rights are respected and upheld at all times.
- Prepare monthly menus, training schedules and monthly staffing schedules.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
- Participate in community participation activities of interest and chosen by the Individual.
- The Direct Care Lead Staff is the designated representative for receiving neighborhood complaints and reports.
- The Direct Care Lead Staff will train all staff on the good neighbor and complaint policies as a component of the on-site orientation that all new direct care staff receives within the first 40 hours of providing services
Minimum Qualifications:
High work ethic, must be at least 21 years of age or older, one year administrative and supervisory experience in the field, and two years of prior experience providing direct supervision to individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential licensed home of 4 or more, must have a valid driver’s license and must be fully insurable.
Must possess a valid appropriate administrators certificate. Require Health Screening, TB Clearance, Criminal Record Clearance. CPR, First Aid Certificate. Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must be one of the following:
1. A Registered Behavior Technician, or
2. A licensed psychiatric technician, or
3. A Qualified Behavior Modification Professional
The Direct Care Lead Staff shall meet the following training requirements:
1. Within the first 40 hours of providing Individual services in the home, all new direct care staff shall complete an on-site orientation to include the good neighbor policy.
2. Within one year from the hire date satisfactorily complete the first 35 hour competency based training course and pass the competency test applicable to that training segment, or to pass a challenge test applicable to that training segment; and
a. With in two years from the hire date satisfactorily complete the second 35 hour competency based training course and pass the competency test applicable to that training segment, or to pass a challenge test applicable to that training segment.
3. Over a 12 month period complete 12 hours or more of continuing education in one or more of the following areas:
a. Individual services as described in the program design
b. Promotion of Individual’s rights, health, safety (CPR and First Aid Certification)
c. Must have a valid CPR and First Aid Certification
d. ID Team process, including development and implementation of IPP’s.
Duty Statement for the Direct Care Lead Staff:
The Direct Care Lead Staff will sign a Duty Statement written as follows:
a. Under the supervision of the Administrator the Direct Care Lead Staff shall have six months experience working with developmental disabilities, be responsible to prepare and maintain, on-going, written
Individual notes which include the following:
1. Community and Leisure Activities
2. Overnight visits away from the home
3. Illness
4. SIR’s as defined in Section 56002(a)(46)
5. Medical and dental visits and the date and signature of the staff person making the entry.
b. Under the supervision of the Administrator, the Direct Care Lead Staff will be responsible for program preparation functions such as for preparing quarterly and annual reports of Individual’s progress toward achievement of each IPP Objectives for which the home is responsible. The report will include the date of completion of the report and signature of the person preparing the report.
c. The Direct Care Lead Staff will assure that adequate direct supervision will be provided for each person living in the home, which may include specialized training, treatment and supervision as stated in the
IPP and will include:
A. Self care needs
B. Independent living skills
C. Community resources, recreational resources.
d. The Direct Care Lead Staff is responsible for meeting with Individual’s and planning the menus and
assuring appropriate food supplies are in the home.
