JOB BRIEF
The Vascular Institute of Houston is seeking a vascular sonographer to join our growing and dynamic team! The sonographer follows clearly defined diagnostic sonography procedures to deliver high quality images to physicians and other health care providers for the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of peripheral arterial and venous disease. Integrates education, technical competence, and patient interaction skills to execute safe and precise procedures to deliver accurate results in a timely manner. Gains confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers through competent patient assessment, attentive monitoring, and effective communication. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.
Most work will be normal business hours. But sometimes weekend work will be required, based on when procedures are scheduled.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Independently perform comprehensive diagnostic vascular ultrasound exams which primarily include but are not limited to lower extremity arterial and venous duplex (including evaluation for venous insufficiency), as well as carotid duplex
- Assist physician/provider during ultrasound guided endovenous procedures (RFA and Varithena/sclerotherapy)
- Assess the patient and correlate the clinical history with the test to be performed
- Prepare patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients
- Ensure safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient while in the sonographer's care
- Utilize written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally with providers/physicians or other members of the team
- Transfer studies to PACS and complete official preliminary reports in a timely manner
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or equivalent
- education/experience
- Minimum 2 years clinical/practical experience as a vascular sonographer, echo experience is a plus
- MUST be proficient in the following non-invasive vascular studies - lower extremity arterial duplex, lower extremity venous duplex (including evaluation for venous insufficiency), carotid duplex
- MUST have experience in endovenous ablations (RFA and Varithena/sclerotherapy)
- RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) through ARDMS or RVS (Registered Vascular Specialist) through CCI required
- RPhS (Registered Phlebology Sonographer) through CCI not required, but is a plus
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required upon hire
