Summary Description
This position requires the ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently in all growing regions with little or no supervision. This California Giant QC Inspector position will inspect fruit according to California Giant standards and specifications.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries according to company’s grading standards and specifications.
- Follow the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP’s) for handling of fresh berries
- Ability to provide quality feedback to QA management, growers, cooling operations, sourcing and sales.
- Assist the QA team in other duties assigned such as but not limited to shelf-life studies, re-inspections and lotting of product.
- Receive unannounced customer visits
- Continuously look for ways to improve sustainability practices in your daily work routine and seek opportunities to contribute to sustainability goals set by your organization
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous experience in berry quality control preferred.
- Regular attendance required
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Strong analytical, interpersonal and communications skills
- Basic skills in MS Word and Excel
- Basic electronic skills for data entry and report generation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects
- Knowledge of berries quality standards and grading systems
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and company policies
- Maintain a clean and sanitary environment
- Ability to work in varying environment conditions, including cold temperatures, as required during berry processing and storage.
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment and recognize potential hazards around forklifts and other heavy equipment in motion.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to adapt to changes without too much stress
- Ability to travel as needed

Physical Requirements
- This position must be able to stand for long periods of time inspecting fruit.
- Must be able to lift 20-25 lbs up onto pallets of fruit at shoulder level on a continual basis throughout the shift.
- This position is subject to harvesting schedules and could work as much as 9–10-hour days. Some days could be longer
- This position may work up to 6 days a week during the season depending on the harvesting schedule.
- Must be able to work in cold environments with temperatures as low as 32 ° F. This includes the ability to wear appropriate cold-weather gear provided by the company and maintain productivity and safety standards.
