The incumbent will support Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL) efforts for Individual Assistance (IA) and disaster recovery, including collaboration with joint field offices. The ESC acts as a liaison and primary regional representative, facilitating communication between federal, state, and local government representatives, tribal governments, partners, and stakeholders.
The ESC plans and coordinates activities related to the program, organizes and oversees resources to support the implementation of program objectives, and performs a variety of analytical and technical tasks. The role requires the ability to work effectively under pressure and to establish and maintain strong working relationships throughout the course of the position.
** Limited Term positions may be appointed up to 12 months or extended to 24 months with the possibility of becoming permanent.**

- An emergency hire appointment can work up to 189 days in 12 consecutive months, based on the needs of the disaster.
- Positions are paid on an hourly basis, once a month, during the first week of the month following the closure of the pay period. An emergency hire appointment is not eligible for medical benefits or a retirement program.
- Emergency hire appointments earn state service and sick leave and vacation based upon actual time worked.
- Civil Service Examinations are not required for appointment.

Department Information
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is an emergency response, homeland security, and disaster recovery agency and as a result, is a dynamic and exciting place to work in a team-oriented environment. Cal OES provides training to enhance the understanding of emergency and incident management to all employees.
In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
