SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director, Facilities Services, this position will maintain, repair and install all types of plumbing equipment, domestic water systems, sewer systems and related devices in compliance with plumbing codes, standards and regulations. This is a day shift position working from 8 : 00 am through 4 : 30 pm.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Install, repair and perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems, including fixtures, drains, piping, gas lines, water heaters, sinks, toilets and valves.
Perform routine inspections and ensure maintenance programs are followed.
Reports daily to the Director, Facilities Services on the status of all work assigned.
Study plans, drawings, specifications to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and or installation.
Make recommendation for repairs or replacement of plumbing and or equipment.
Climb stairs and ladders, work on scaffolding and work at heights and in confined spaces, when necessary.
Available for call-in emergencies and accept any assignment with Facilities as needed. Some weekend work required to accommodate special event or project needs.
SKILLS / ABILITIES :
Ability to operate manual / powered drain cleaning machines, cameras and associated plumbing tools and equipment.
Ability to assess pipes for damage and recommend repair or replacement.
Ability to assess and respond safely to emergency plumbing situations.
Ability to review blueprints, building codes, or specification to determine work.
Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
Ability to move heavy items and to push carts either manually or using special equipment.
Willing and able to be test fit for respirator and pass pulmonary function test.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Upon offer of employment, must pass a background check and pass a physical examination.
Qualifications
EDUCATION :
High school diploma, GED or equivalent
EXPERIENCE :
Must have knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
Experience in commercial and residential plumbing environments.
Basic computer knowledge.
Good working knowledge of ADA requirements, the California Building Code and OSHA safety regulations.
Completion of 4-year apprenticeship program.
Minimum 4 years documented journeyman experience.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Must have a valid California driver license. Employment is subject to driving record meeting the standards of the CalArts insurance carrier.
