Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Chief Operations Officer (COO), facilitates research, development, review, writing, and editing of applications for grant funding; conducts research for potential funding sources; maintains customer relations module, grants management system databases, and funder grant portals; and works in collaboration with management in developing and submitting funding proposals. Responsible for writing proposals for both CRIHB and member Tribal Health Programs. Works with Department Directors on submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant-funded projects.

Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, manage, and track grant proposals to foundations, government, and non-government sources.

2. Performs prospect research to evaluate prospects for foundation, government, and non-government grants.

3. Understanding of CRIHB Organization and its membership history and programs.

4. Provides grant writing and grant management training to CRIHB staff and membership.

5. Disseminates information about grant and subcontract opportunities to the CRIHB membership.

6. Assists with preparing quarterly activity reports for the CRIHB 638 subcontracted Tribal Health Programs.

7. Works closely with staff in developing and transforming ideas into grant proposals; interacts with Tribal entities involved in grant-funding activities. Participates in meetings and discussions in which decisions affecting grant program applications and follow-through are made.

8. Provides proposal writing training to CRIHB staff and membership.

9. Ensures that CRIHB has up-to-date needs assessment data to help guide the appropriate strategic responses to meet the needs of the membership and the community.

10. Maintains funding databases, including funder report deadlines, customer relations module, and related confidential files.

11. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of areas involved in identifying and soliciting grants; and collaborates with various internal departments.

12. In partnership with the Department Directors, prepares grant applications and related reports, reviews and edits them for accuracy, completeness, clarity, and adherence to grantor’s guidelines.

13. Develops related newsletter articles, press releases, and contract requests, as needed.

14. Leads the development of the CRIHB Annual Report.

15. Regular and predictable attendance.

16. Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB’s automobile insurance.

2. The position requires occasional overnight travel within CRIHB’s service area.

3. Requires ability to drive up to 7 hours a day.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three (3) years of government and non-governmental grant writing experience for a non-profit organization. (A combination of experience and education may be acceptable).

2. Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.

3. Strong proofreading and editing skills.

4. Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.

5. Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.

6. Strong contributor in team environments. Ability to perform in a cross-functional team approach and job responsibilities.

7. Work under pressure to meet deadlines for grant opportunities.

8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office - PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook; and Adobe Suite.

9. Ability to communicate clearly with a high degree of verbal and writing skills.

10. Ability to deal with a high level of interpersonal skills associated with respective staff, Tribal, federal, and state agencies.

11. The individual must have the ability to work with people from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Possesses a basic knowledge of Native American communities and always maintains cultural sensitivity.

Salary:

Salary Range: $72,319 - $77,142. Compensation will be determined by the candidate's experience, qualifications, and budget considerations.

Indian Preference

This position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indians in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code, Sections 472 and 473). Applicants claiming Indian Preference must submit Indian verification, certified by Tribe of affiliation or other acceptable documentation of Indian heritage.
