Park Interpretive Specialist (Seasonal)

Are you passionate about protecting the ocean? Join the California State Parks Monterey District Interpretation team as a Park Interpretive Specialist, Marine Protected Area (MPA) Intern! The MPA Intern will be responsible for providing outreach and education to park visitors and K-12 students about marine protected areas, Monterey’s coastal ecosystems, and general conservation values.

The intern will work under the direction of the District Interpretive Coordinator, with the MPA Interpreter I directing most of the work day activities. The incumbent will be working primarily at Asilomar State Beach and Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and should have the ability to navigate a variety of terrains.

The MPA Intern will inspire stewardship by developing educational resources, presenting interpretive programs, and conducting public outreach at community events. The ideal candidate will have a background in marine or environmental science, experience working with the public and/or children, and excellent verbal and written skills. The intern should be tech savvy with familiarity with basic Microsoft Office applications, social media platforms, and graphic design applications such as Canva. The MPA intern is expected to work on weekends and holidays.

This position is seasonal and part-time, with an average of 8-10 hours a week.

This position is not telework eligible.
