Job Description :

This is an advanced journey level position in this classification series. Within the areas described in the primary job function, completes assignments with limited supervision. Technician proceeds on their own initiative in compliance with policies, practices, and procedures prescribed by immediate supervisor. This position can be located in either San Jose or Bakersfield, CA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Drafting of New Business projects and water main relocations following design guidelines and

standards, including proper handling and maintaining of Developer's AutoCAD file;

Perform basic calculations such as pipeline crossing and meter sizing;

Effectively prioritize projects given competing deadlines & quickly pivot as needed;

Prepare Cal Water cost estimate form in accordance with CPUC Rules;

Provide support on utility location research and verification as necessary;

Communicate closely with master contractor on confirmatory price requests;

Communicate closely with engineer and district staff on project progress and any missing information;

Communicate as needed with Developer's engineer regarding project surveying, design, and drawings;

Drafting of new standard drawing and revisions;

Ability to efficiently manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.

Independently conducts research on existing infrastructure using databases, maps, drawings, photos and paper files, with limited support

Communicates with Cal Water employees from other groups, departments, and districts to collect data, complete requests, and coordinate as necessary

Operates a provided company vehicle for travel to field locations

Participates in Continuous Improvement (CI) activities to improve all aspects of the company's operations

Responsible for personal safety at all times

Properly documents work and maintain records in databases and paper files

Performs algebraic and geometric or financial calculations

Supports engineers, field staff, and other technicians in completing field work

Operates specific hardware such as large format printers and scanners

Coordinates field work to obtain data, measurements and / or GPS coordinates, with limited supervision

Records Management

Assists in training new technicians and field staff

Completes peer review of work done by other technicians

Occasionally directs other technicians

Assists in the development and implementation of new software, standards, procedures, and processes

May have limited project management responsibilities

Performs work on-site in the assigned office location

Performs other duties as assigned as appropriate for the classification

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent

Valid California Class C Driver's License

Additional education or on-the-job advanced journey level experience in a related technical area

Advanced proficiency in all job related software and hardware. Depending on the Primary Job Function, this may include Computer-Aided Design Software, surveying equipment, Enterprise Asset Management Software, Global Positioning System devices, Geographic Information software, or financial software

Properly plans, prioritizes and documents work

Technical knowledge and ability needed to complete the job assignments

Successfully completes all essential tasks for the functional area and level or demonstrates the capability to perform

Salary Range : $42.17 - $58.09
