What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hardware Engineering Intern position at Calix North America?
Calix is looking for a Summer intern to join our Hardware Engineering team. In this role, you will be part of a unique and award-winning internship program within the company. The program provides the opportunity to learn new skills through training and on the job learning.
The successful candidate for this position will work within the Intelligent Access Edge (IAE) Systems Products Hardware Development team. You will assist with various tasks relating to the Design, Test and Verification of Calix Hardware designs, which will lead to the successful product release of these designs. You will apply learned engineering knowledge and skills in order to help accomplish these tasks.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist Hardware Engineering team in the design, test, and debug of Calix Hardware designs
- Collect and analyze data in a Hardware lab environment
- Create scripts to aid in lab testing and data measurement and analysis
- Create python scripts to link various Engineering tools and databases
- Create and update Engineering Design and Test Checklists
- Create and present test reports
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a college degree program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. Preference will be given to applicants who are currently in their Junior or Senior year of college with prior work experience.
- Inquisitive and Creative
- Excellent MS Office skills – particularly MS Excel
- Strong scripting skills using Python or similar language
- Strong working knowledge of fundamental electronic components
- Able to read and understand hardware schematics
- Working knowledge of FPGAs and embedded MCU/CPU design
- Working knowledge of embedded SW
- Comfortable working in a hands-on lab environment
- Works well in both individual and team roles
- Abile to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September)

Compensation will vary based on geographical location (see below) within the United States. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's location of residence and multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education.
