What are the responsibilities and job description for the Callaway Gardener 1 position at Callaway Resort & Gardens?
The Gardener Level 1 is an entry level position in the Gardens Operations department that will participate and be a part of a horticulture and landscape maintenance team within an assigned Garden area.
Experience in Horticulture/Landscaping helpful. Must have a valid driver's license. Must complete WPS training within 5 days of hire or have a current GA commercial pesticide license.
Long hours sometimes required. Potentially hard physical labor, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects. Ability to stand, squat and/or kneel for long periods of time. Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather. Ability to operate small tools, lawn and gardening equipment. Ability to operate heavy equipment preferred.
Be able to positively motivate and lead a team, conveying information and ideas clearly and effectively so that ownership of high levels of guest service is understood to be the role of each individual team member.
Be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately Be able to work well in high-pressure situations while maintaining composure and objectivity, including the ability to listen carefully to and resolve guest issues to the satisfaction of the affected guests
Be able to identify potential guest issues and then develop methodologies to prevent or limit the impact of those guest issues during the course of guest visits. Be able to assimilate complex information and data for various sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need
Be able to effectively listen to, understand, and clarify concerns and issues raised by team members and guests. Be able to work with and understand financial information and data and perform basic math functions.
Interacts with all guests and all team members, at all times, in a friendly, service-oriented manner. Maintains regular attendance in compliance with Callaway Gardens' standards, as required by scheduling that will vary according to the needs of Callaway Gardens' business levels to include some holidays and weekends.
Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming to include wearing a nametag when working. Complies at all times with Callaway standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations. Maintains a friendly and warm demeanor at all times with both team members and guests.
Keeps accurate records to include pesticide application logs. Reports needs for materials and equipment to direct supervisor. Keeps assigned small tools clean and in good repair.
Maintains the horticultural standards of Callaway Gardens with a sense of urgency and focus with attention to detail in an efficient and productive manner. Practices proper horticultural techniques to include planting, watering, weeding, pruning, pest control, dead heading, and plant identification.
Operates equipment properly and in a safe manner. Insures equipment used is cleaned and properly maintained. Prioritizes daily tasks and weekly projects with direction from department supervisor. Works with volunteers as needed.
Ability to work with little or no supervision. Follows instructions, written or verbal. Attend all meetings/training as required by supervisor or manager. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
