BASIC FUNCTION
The Surgical Technician in surgery provides direct and indirect services to the surgical patient under the supervision of the professional nurse and performs tasks as necessary for the efficient and effective functioning of the operating room, as well as the delivery of quality care.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Work with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout his/her surgical experience.
- Ensures that the proper supplies, instruments, and equipment are available for procedure.
- Ensure that equipment is functioning properly.
- Identifies actual and potential risks to patients and others. Takes action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety in the facility.
- Prepares for cases by gathering supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Wipe all flat surfaces in the OR the morning of surgery.
- Follows all principles of sterile technique.
- Participates in all counts, as necessary.
- Assists in cleaning the OR and instruments.
- Assists in restocking OR.
- Disinfects, cleans, wraps, and sterilizes instruments.
- Pulls surgical cases according to physician preference cards.
- Assists in spore testing and Bowie-Dick testing of autoclaves.
- Attends Company and industry-related meetings, as required.
- Establishes individual goals which are aligned with the Company's business strategies and objectives.
- Functions as a contributing member of the department's team and other teams, as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned by executive leadership.

working environment and conditions
- The work environment is an internal Surgical suite.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- This job is designated as a Category I job using OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for any employee engaged in Category I tasks.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
EDUCATION, Experience and TRAINING
- Must be a graduate from an accredited surgical technician program with 2 years experience.
- Current BLS certification.
- Preferred accomplishments include experience in plastics and outpatient surgery.
- Must be flexible in job duties and work schedule.
