What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Product Development - Bags & Accessories position at CALPAK?
We are seeking an experienced Director of Product Development to join our team. The ideal candidate has proven experience in leading and executing a comprehensive product strategy. This role will report to the Executive Director of Operations and Supply Chain and will work closely with colleagues in the design, digital, marketing, and operations departments and across the organization to drive and achieve product goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and own all phases of product development, from conception to development to production and launch, adhering to timelines, budgets, and margin goals
- Develop and execute comprehensive product strategies in collaboration with design and marketing teams aligned with the company’s overall business objectives
- Lead and own material sourcing and vendor management
- Manage all packaging needs
- Work with operations and supply chain teams to negotiate pricing and maintain cost efficiencies
- Oversee and lead product testing, quality control, and compliance in line with brand standards and regulatory requirements
- Work with demand planning, sales, and marketing teams to ensure smooth and timely launches
- Identify, interpret and apply market trends as they relate to the product lines
- Assist sales and CX teams with product related questions and keep them informed of relevant changes to the product
- Onboard any new PD related platforms
- Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices
- Proficient at utilizing data to inform product decisions and measure performance
- Excellent communication and project management skills to ensure timely product launches
- Lead and develop a high-performing product development team, fostering a culture of innovation, efficiency, and excellence
- Periodic travel to overseas suppliers may be required
- Support all new and needed company needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 8 years of experience in product development with at least 3-4 years of experience working specifically with bags and accessories.
- 4 years of experience managing direct reports
- Strong understanding of handbag construction, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Experience working with global suppliers and manufacturers
- Excellent communication and project management skills
- Experience building and managing a team
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and act on data insights
- Proactive problem solver with the ability to troubleshoot issues effectively
- Comfortable with ambiguity and takes initiative to lead projects
- Proven success in working cross-functionally with all levels
- A highly collaborative, driven, and team-oriented individual who is passionate about product
