Job Summary
The Medical Assistant at the California Institute of Technology’s Student Wellness Services plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality healthcare to students at the Health Center. The Medical Assistant is responsible for clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring that the clinic operates efficiently and that students receive compassionate, timely care. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, a team player, and committed to providing excellent service in a dynamic college health environment.
This is an Essential Reporting position. In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as essential reporting has essential job skills that are needed for response and recovery and is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible.
Essential Job Duties
Clinical Support :
- Assist healthcare providers (physicians, nurse practitioners, etc.) with patient care during appointments, including obtaining vital signs, medical history, and assisting with procedures.
- Prepare exam rooms before and after visits, ensuring cleanliness and stocking of necessary medical supplies.
- Perform basic laboratory tests (, urine tests, rapid strep tests) and assist with the collection of specimens for lab processing.
- Administer medications and vaccines as ordered by healthcare providers.
- Perform procedures ordered by healthcare providers which could include EKGs, ear lavages, or dressing changes.
- Assist with phlebotomy and injections as indicated.
- Provide patient education on health topics, medication instructions, and follow-up care as directed by healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
