What are the responsibilities and job description for the Organics Extraction Technician position at Caltest Analytical Laboratory?
We have an immediate need for a Semi-volatiles/Organics extraction team member interested in working in a family-run, commercial, environmental, production laboratory, serving Northern California for over 40 years.
Daily duties involve extraction of organic constituents through a variety of techniques such as liquid/liquid, solid/liquid and solid-phase using EPA series methods; preparing appropriate glassware and extraction apparatus to 'ultra-clean,' contaminant-free analytical specifications for trace-level analyses; maintaining thorough documentation of preparatory procedures according to established requirements; and providing support to co-workers as needed.
Must be able to perform analyses for regulatory studies working under prescribed procedures (standard operating procedures, methods, established quality control parameters, etc.); document and report data in a timely manner according to regulatory requirements; and ensure data accuracy and quality. Must be able to effectively communicate, summarize and present information as well as respond to questions from groups such as management, clients and colleagues. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel required; knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and LIMS desired.
Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision as well as able to work effectively as a team member. Knowledge of scientific discipline, relevant technical skills and laboratory equipment preferred. Organizational skills and ability to follow direction required. Safe handling of toxic chemicals, ability to maintain a clean and orderly work space and an aptitude for exercising laboratory safety practices required. Knowledge of fume hood use and the use of personal protective equipment desired.
Candidates with one year prior laboratory experience (non-academic) and an Associate’s degree with some science courses (such as chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, etc.) preferred; an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered as a substitute. Must have an interest in working in a dynamic laboratory setting and comfortable working with chemicals.
Full-time position (40 hours/week with occasional overtime), typically Monday through Friday (with some weekend work required as needed to meet client demands).
Lab located in Napa, CA in the north SF Bay area. Compensation $22-27/hr; commensurate with experience and education.
