Cal OES is recruiting for Limited Term positions in support of the Disaster Response and Recovery efforts in Southern California.
** Limited Term positions may be appointed up to 12 months or extended to 24 months with the possibility of becoming permanent.**

Job Summary:
Cal OES plays a central role in coordinating recovery activities in support of local government efforts that include identifying and providing programmatic and technical support to local governments. Cal OES oversees regional coordination of disaster recovery efforts, sets priorities, and directs disaster assistance and resources where and when needed. Cal OES is the conduit for local governments to key federal disaster recovery assistance programs.
After large-scale disasters or catastrophic incidents the State Disaster Recovery Framework will ensure post-disaster recovery activities and programs (both government and non- government) are coordinated, organized, and effectively meeting the needs caused by the disaster.
Under the close supervision of the Public Assistance Branch Director, the Environmental Scientist, disaster relief operations by collecting and managing environmental data, and coordinating field operations with federal, state, and local agencies/contractors to ensure regulatory compliance. Capable of rapidly assessing environmental damage, coordinating with agencies, and providing expert guidance on remediation and recovery, while ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and policies, including evaluating threats to water quality, air quality, sensitive habitats, and endangered species.
A key responsibility of this position is to provide technical expertise and guidance on environmental remediation and recovery strategies. The scientist will also be responsible for preparing environmental documentation, such as impact assessments and permit applications, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This may involve coordinating with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals for emergency response and recovery activities.
