JOB TITLE: Teacher-Middle School / Middle School Discipleship Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy

REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal

STATUS: Exempt; Teaching Professionals Calendar

HOURS: Full Time (40) 10-month 2-week summer

LOCATION: Calvary Christian Academy, Fort Lauderdale

Purpose Statement:

The Teacher is responsible for teaching the Middle School students at Calvary Christian Academy. The teacher will instruct students as required by the curriculum objectives established by Calvary Christian Academy. The specific focus of this role is to minister to students through quality instruction with a biblical foundation.

The Discipleship Assistant is to provide ministry to Middle School students seeking assistance with school, personal, social, and family problems that affect spiritual growth, classroom behavior, and academic progress. Services provided include individual guidance, small group counseling, and crisis intervention. The specific focus of this role is to help students develop academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually in a manner that will enable them to be good disciples and stewards of the abilities and strengths God has given.

Scope:

This person interacts directly with students, and with parents, staff, and administrators on behalf of students. This position guides students in classroom learning that will motivate them to reach their academic and spiritual potential and help accomplish CCA’s school mission. Youth discipleship and the handling of confidential student concerns are a critical part of this position.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Model Christ in word and deed
• Take guidance and counsel from Administration and subject Department Head
• Write lesson plans for all classes on a weekly basis
• Teach entire assigned curriculum utilizing national standards and biblical integration
• Establish and maintain communication with parents as specified by administrative policy
• Read Calvary Christian Academy email/staff communications and respond if requested
• Be available for student questions, concerns, and ministry before or after school.
• Engage students in active learning
• Use assessments and data to establish the need to re-teach lessons
• Create materials for differentiated instruction
• Work with the MS ESE Director to plan intervention services for students
• Provide educational/personal/social counseling.
• Orients new students to provide a comfortable and successful introduction to CCA.
• Attend/participate in Back to School Night and other school-scheduled events by administration
• Participate in the accreditation process for the school’s continuous improvement plan
• Participate in professional development to stay current in your field.
• Participate in scheduled MS and department meetings
• Travel on assigned overnight class trips as needed
• Fulfill any assigned supervisor duties
• Decorate classroom seasonally, scripturally, and quarterly
• Work collaboratively with other staff and teachers daily
• Attend the Chapel that is scheduled for your predominant grade level
• Adhere to specified professional dress code
• Compile and maintain an up-to-date substitute folder
• Secure and straighten up assigned classroom at the end of each day
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds and sit or stand for an extended period of time

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Full-time (40 hours/week); however, may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend a CCA event, or assist with a special project, travel on a class trip, or in a circumstantial emergency affecting the church facilities.
