Daycare-Preschool Director

CAMP (Calvary All-day Ministry Program) is a nonprofit ministry of Calvary on 8th. Established in 1976, CAMP provides a safe and nurturing Christian preschool and wrap-around childcare program where we can show God's love to the children and parents we serve. The director is charged with leading this mission with the support of the board, Calvary staff, and volunteers. This position is part-time, 30-35 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities and Requirements
Licensing. The CAMP Director is the primary person in charge of maintaining state licensing guidelines.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- Have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university and shall have completed not less than 18 semester hours in early childhood education or child development.
- Have at least 2 semester hours in child care administration from an accredited college or university, or a minimum of 3.0 CEUs in child care administration.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of Michigan’s licensing requirements.
- Stay up to date on hours required by the state.
- Communicate with CAMP’s licensing agent.
- Be up to date in all necessary training, such as CPR, First Aid, and blood-borne pathogens.
- Oversee all facility, schedule, and staff requirements.
- Secure proper coverage (substitute director) for days not present on site.
Staffing. The CAMP Director is the primary person responsible for leading the CAMP teachers and aides.
- Establish a positive staff culture through daily check-ins, regularly scheduled staff meetings, encouraging evaluations, and coaching/training.
- Provide opportunities for professional development.
- Work with staff to create the weekly schedule.
- Perform yearly evaluations of staff.
- Assist and work alongside staff when needed.
- Coach staff and hold them accountable to the mission of CAMP and best practices for childcare.
- Recruit, interview, train, and onboard new staff members. Include others in this process and work with the board as necessary.
Administration and Leadership The CAMP Director is the primary person responsible for the culture and day-to-day operation of CAMP.
- Establish a collaborative and positive work culture.
- Take initiative to improve processes such as parent communication, staff training, and physical space.
- Seek cooperation from CAMP and church staff as well as other stakeholders in making changes to CAMP.
- Perform duties of lead teacher up to two days a week (3 hours each day) or as needed to fill staffing gaps.
- Oversee billing and work with Calvary’s Office Manager to do payroll.
- Attend Calvary all-church staff meetings 3-4 times per year.
- Coordinate with Calvary Office Manager and Senior Pastor on items of shared interest.
- Work with CAMP board to determine which policies are under the Director’s authority and which need board/church approval to change.
- Send monthly reports to the CAMP board.
Pay Range: $20 - $23 / hour
