What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interim Safety Director position at Calvary Worship Center?
The Interim Safety Director is responsible for acting as Calvary Worship Center’s (CWC) Safety Director, ensuring compliance with all aspects of CWC’s safety policies, practices, and procedures during an interim period. This includes the day-to-day operations of planning, preparation, training, and actively patrolling church grounds.
This purpose is to maintain a welcoming and safe environment for all volunteers, staff, and visitors by proactively identifying and mitigating potential threats. Fostering a sense of peace and comfort during worship, fellowship, and other church activities allows everyone to focus fully on their spiritual experience without fear or worry.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
· Supervises CWC paid security personnel, volunteer safety team members, and needed contract workers. Responsibilities include:
o scheduling and ensuring appropriate coverage during ministry hours
o evaluating and managing performance
o assisting with the interviewing/hiring process of security staff
o training and orienting new employees
o scheduling, communicating, and coordinating necessary training
o maintaining unity, trust, and discipleship within security/safety teams
· Works in close association with the entire staff to build and maintain a strong team environment and complete the work necessary to fully serve/support the ministries and events of CWC.
· Ensures assistance for CWC tithe and offering management on Sundays. (Safety Team Leaders rotate responsibilities.)
· Attends Monday staff meetings and additional meetings as needed.
· Responds to incidents, emergencies, and other concerns during scheduled hours and days of the week as assigned.
· Advises CWC Executive Team on criminal or civil aspects of disciplinary matters on or off church grounds.
· Coordinates appropriate responses towards threats or acts of violence and all law enforcement incidents while on campus if needed.
· Serves as Safety Manager for insurance purposes.
· Complies with and upholds CWC’s Safety Team Ministry Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.) and CWC’s Safety Team Ministry Handbook, which ensures the appropriate distribution and comprehension of both documents.
· Manages alarm system needs. Duties include:
o Assigning and deactivating staff/volunteer alarm codes as needed.
o Serving as the first point of contact in case of a building alarm trigger.
o Attending to or delegating of needs prompted by the alarm system.
· Disciples employees and volunteers to deepen their walk with Christ and assist them in living a life as disciples of Jesus Christ.
· Recruit, develop, and train volunteers.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ and display Christ-centered behavior (always treating people with dignity, respect, compassion, and integrity).
· Education: Some college-level training in security procedures, law enforcement, or significant experience in this area.
· Experience: Combination of a minimum of 5 years experience in law enforcement, military, private security, or CWC Safety Team.
· Meets all requirements to receive an El Paso County Concealed Weapons Permit.
· Able to work in challenging and, at times, hazardous situations such as, but not limited to:
o Possible break-ins.
o Additional alarm system needs: fire, water damage, smoke, etc.
o Individuals that threaten campus safety.
o Interactions with those needing de-escalation and/or needing to be escorted off the premises.
o Other examples as outlined within CWC’s Safety Team Ministry Standard Operating Procedures and CWC’s Safety Team Ministry Handbook.
· Maintains the privacy of sensitive information and handles confidential data with discretion.
· Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and CWC members.
· Ability to intervene and diffuse threatening and confrontational situations.
· Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local statutes to sustain a working knowledge of information related to facility, security, and safety.
· Demonstrates ability to safely, appropriately, and effectively use a firearm in emergencies.
