The Calvert County Government's Department of Communications & Media Relations is seeking a Public Broadcast Production Specialist. In this highly visible role, you be setting up and running live feeds for the Board of County Commissioners and various boards throughout the year at varying times. A flexible schedule, calm demeanor and professional appearance are absolutely critical. Must be knowledgeable of live feed setup, switching, running presentations and building trust.Performs advanced production work for Calvert County's Public, Education and Government Network. The Public Broadcast Production Specialist oversees and participates in the day-to-day operations of the technical audio-visual productions and handles procurement and maintenance of the County’s broadcast systems.The Public Broadcast Production Specialist is a motivated self-starter, a great communicator with elected officials and the public, with strong budgeting skills, advanced video production and editorial acumen, awareness of computer networking and cyber security, and the ability to manage a variety of tasks effectively and in a timely manner. The position requires a strong focus on creative and informational writing and professional experience utilizing the Adobe Creative Cloud is preferred.Essential Job FunctionsAssists in the operation of and programming for the government and education network. Writes, produces, records, and edits programming.Conducts audio/visual setup and recording for studio productions, field productions and special events, such as news conferences and on-location public meetings. Serves as lead maintenance technician for production studio, camera and audio equipment.Manages and utilizes equipment and systems related to audio/visual production, including lights and lighting equipment, cameras, switchers, sound, graphics, teleprompters, recording devices, props, set pieces, audio equipment, projectors, lecterns, speaker systems, and microphones.Delivers finished video files encoded properly for distribution on the government and education network, video on demand, and social media outlets.Provides support developing and managing operational budgets and procurement needs related to the broadcast studio.Troubleshoots hardware and software issues negatively impacting projects and workflows.Analyzes workflows and processes and makes recommendations for improvements.Provides departmental administrative support; prepares and follows up on actions to ensure proper completion and takes necessary steps to resolve problems or expedite actions.Assists with scheduling of government and education network via head end.Provides video and operational support during emergency action situations which may require overnight and extensive working hours and stays in Emergency Operations Center.Other DutiesPerforms related work as required.Knowledge, Abilities and Skills (These are pre-employment KASs that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)Knowledge of--Audio visual techniques, procedures, and methods.Technical requirements of operating a television production facility, including audio visual production equipment, live-studio operation, and non-linear editing systems.Video equipment maintenance requirements.Computer applications related to the work.Ability to--Design, direct, and produce broadcast-quality video programs.Operate various audio/video equipment and related editing equipment.Provide technical direction in a live production studio environment.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the work.Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledges, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)Training and/or Education: Bachelor's degree with coursework in video production and/or communications.Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in video production.Licenses or Certificates: Valid driver's license.Special Requirements: Operation of a County owned vehicle.Physical Demands: Supervises and participates in video production activities in all types of weather conditions; recurring lifting of objects up to 49 pounds; operation of keyboard devices.Unusual Demands: May be required to work beyond normal scheduled hours.Required to be available to respond to equipment failures or for response to local emergency situations including weather-related event, utility emergencies, and other public safety related situations.Work is subject to frequent interruptions and inflexible deadlines.FLSA Status: NonexemptCompensation Steps: Position closing date: 3/20/2025Pay rate: Pay rate: $34.71 - $39.84 per hour, $63,172 - $72,509 annuallyGrade 723, 35 hours per weekDepartment of Communications & Media RelationsCalvert County Government offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees' health, financial well-being, and work-life balance.
