We require full availability for the entire summer camp schedule, including orientation week. This is a summer position in the Recreation Division that directs and supervises recreational activities for children and youth with disabilities. The work involves planning, adapting, and implementing a variety of activities within a prescribed area of recreation. Supervision of staff in assigned group and volunteer personnel is expected. General supervision is provided by the Program Coordinator. Essential Job FunctionsDemonstrates initiative and enthusiasm in providing recreational opportunities to participants. Interacts and communicates with staff in planning, implementing, and adapting activities that are age and ability appropriate. Supervises, leads, and participates in scheduled activities, such as swimming, boating, field trips, physical activities, etc. Supervises and assigns tasks to staff in assigned group and volunteers. Provides a safe environment for participants, staff, and volunteers. Communicates with Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator and staff regarding activities, participants, and personnel issues. Maintains records of attendance, writes daily progress notes, and completes paperwork required by the Therapeutic Recreation Services. Other Job Duties (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit reasonably assigned duties)Sets up and takes down equipment as needed. Feeds, clothes, and assists participants with toileting who are unable to do so independently. Reports any issues, problems, or concerns when they occur to the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator. Performs any assigned duties that relate to successful operation of a therapeutic recreation summer camp program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Pre-employment KSA applicable to essential job functions)Knowledge of--Summer Camp programs.Planning, implementing, and adapting activities for maximum participation and independence Ability to--Plan, implement, and participate in a variety of creative and physical recreational activities on a daily basis.Coordinate and interact with staff, and demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and good judgement.Prepare and maintain accurate records of attendance, progress notes, and related issues.Maintain a positive working relationship with parents, community members, and staff.Deal effectively with the public. Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or EducationOne year of college training in recreation, special education, education, social work, psychology, or other humanitarian disciplines. ExperienceSix months of experience working with children with disabilities, to include, but not limited to , Best Buddies, Personal Care Services, Direct Support Services, or other relevant experience. Licenses or CertificatesMay require a valid driver’s license. Special RequirementsSubject to background investigation.May operate a county vehicle. Physical DemandsMedium to heavy physical effort required.
