The Interim Director of Nursing is tasked with overseeing, managing, and ensuring the quality of nursing care within the organization. They play a crucial role in selecting, training, supervising, and disciplining all nursing-related personnel, aligning their efforts with our organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, organize, and coordinate nursing services for apartment and Health Center residents, ensuring the availability of necessary resources to meet resident needs.
Coordinate and direct all nursing services, including staffing plans for licensed and Geriatric Nursing Assistants, in accordance with budget objectives.
Recruit, train, evaluate, and discipline nursing services personnel, including private duty and agency staff.
Establish and implement a comprehensive staff orientation program and ongoing education initiatives.
Ensure the effective execution of clinical programs and restorative care through regular audits and direct observation.
Conduct routine audits of medical records to maintain accuracy and compliance.
Establish and maintain procedures to ensure nursing personnel hold valid licenses as per federal and state regulations.
Participate in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement Committee meetings and annual policy reviews.
Coordinate in-service education programs for nursing staff, utilizing external resources as necessary.
Facilitate communication of significant clinical developments to relevant parties, including families, physicians, and regulatory bodies.
Review nursing requirements and assist in care planning for residents admitted to the Health Center.
Oversee the development and updating of care plans for residents to reflect their evolving needs.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA Privacy Standards.
Evaluate admissions for appropriate level of care and Medicare coverage, ensuring completeness of documentation.
Timely completion and submission of MDS data.
Additional Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain nursing staff schedules to ensure 24-hour coverage and regulatory compliance.
Oversee orientation and evaluations of nursing staff.
Appoint a designated nurse in case of temporary absence and designate a nurse in charge for each shift.
Conduct regular nursing staff meetings for education and policy communication.
Collaborate with external consultants to assess resident care needs and implement action plans as necessary.
Maintain clinical competency and stay updated on geriatric nursing practices.
Act on behalf of the Administrator as needed.
Maintain high visibility with residents and ensure quality care and safety within the Health Center environment.
Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled.
Participate in departmental budget planning.
Perform specific duties as assigned by supervisor.
Adhere to safety regulations and HIPAA/OIG compliance policies.
Foster a friendly and respectful environment for residents and coworkers.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited nursing school and current RN license in Maryland or eligible for reciprocity.
Minimum of two years of nursing administration experience in a geriatric skilled care setting.
Basic computer skills required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff, demonstrating sound judgment and organizational skills.
