POSITION: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
LOCATION: To be determined
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is for a passionate, educational leader with a strong commitment to student learning and enhancing the student experience. This position assists in providing leadership for the continuous improvement of the school and supporting students and teachers as it relates to school climate and instructional programs along with managing the day-to-day operations of the school, participating in and facilitating committees, staff development, and assigned meetings.
REPORTS TO: Principal
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
- Administrator I endorsement (or be eligible for this endorsement by July 1, 2025).
- Five (5) years of successful teaching experience, required – elementary experience preferred.
- Experience with multiple schools and/or levels preferred.

- Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, and community members.

- Understanding of and ability to navigate the school and district as a system’s leader.
- Understands equitable practices and its impact on all facets of education and the impact on instruction and school climate.
- Understands how trauma, equity, inclusive practices, and restorative practices impacts the student and teacher experience.
- Demonstrated physical vigor necessary to work diligently on the successful completion of school assignments.
- Knowledge of how to work with teachers and staff in the supervision process in order to improve instruction.
- Demonstrated ability in organizing whole school programs such as student assessment, PBIS, and special education.
- Knowledge of sound instructional practice including purposeful lesson planning that will increase student achievement when measured in a variety of ways including the ability to analyze data to inform instructional decision making.
- Knowledge of instructional technology, including digital curriculum and tools, and its use in the classroom.
- Understanding of how to implement various supports to manage student behavior such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Ukeru, and Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI).
- Understanding of the school improvement process in order to determine root causes, annual goals, classroom strategies, and measurements of success.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change with staff, students, parents and community.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, make informed decisions and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
- Understanding of Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching, Maryland College and Career Ready Standards, Multi-Tiered System of Support, and the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.
- Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures and negotiated agreements for Calvert County Public Schools.
- Demonstrated ability in critical reading and writing skills as well as verbal communication.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and follow through to meet deadlines effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively to the expectations for this position.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle insurance.

- Acts as an agent of continuous improvement to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
- Seeks out and participates in professional learning opportunities to increase personal capacity to learn and to share expertise with others.
- Communicates and collaborates with appropriate central office executive team, directors, and supervisors on matters of student discipline, transfer, placement, promotion, retention, recordkeeping and all critical school activities or issues.
- Assists in the planning and delivery of well-run and engaging meetings that have clear purpose, focus on matters of consequence, and engage participants in a thoughtful and productive series of conversations and deliberations about important school matters, administrative policy changes, new instructional programs, and all facets of school functions.
- Manages the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process, Student Services Team and 504 process, and/or school testing program including conducting required meetings in compliance with state and federal mandates.
- Participates in selection, assignment, and evaluation of professional and support staff.
- Shares responsibilities for supervision of co-curricular and extra-curricular events with the principal.
- Performs administrative functions as assigned by the Principal of the school.
- Thinks, concentrates, and interacts well with others.
- Comes to work promptly every day.
- Works extended hours daily and works flexible hours as necessary.
- Is available to various student, teacher, and community groups for education-related and extra-curricular purposes beyond the regular work day.
- Works well under stress and meets all deadlines.
- Attends special school and district-related events.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current salary schedule for administrators and supervisors. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.
