POSITION: Full Time Substitute
LOCATION: Southern Middle School
POSITION SUMMARY: Under direction of the school principal, provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure student success. Implements teacher-prepared instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
REPORTS TO: SchoolPrincipal
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE: At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
High school diploma or possession of a general education development (GED) program certificate
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.)
- Ability to be flexible and willing to adapt to change at short notice
- Ability to follow both oral and written directions/instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means
- Ability to manage classroom procedures and student behavior
- Ability to manage instructional technology
- Ability to connect with students in a K-12 environment
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assumes duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher
- Flexible and willing to cover different classrooms or multiple classrooms daily
- Implements lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher
- Effectively manages a classroom of students by keeping them on task and engaged
- Attend staff meetings and Professional Learning activities
- Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings
- Communicates and interacts with students and staff
- Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of children
- Maintains appropriate records and follows district and school policies and procedures
- Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintains regular, on-time attendance
- Interacts positively with others
OTHER DUTIES: If no coverage is needed, the Full Time Substitute will assist other classroom teachers or perform related work as assigned by the school principal or his/her designee
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.
UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to flexible work locations and schedule.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten (10) month position; $20.00/hour; 176 days. This is a grant-funded position. Hours reimbursed at current substitute teacher pay rate. If chosen for this position, the candidate is encouraged to enroll in direct deposit.
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.
State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.

Pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland - House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention all applicants are required to report all former employers in which you may have had direct contact with minors.
