POSITION:  OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST (10 MONTH)

 

LOCATION:  SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT and Designated School Sites.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The person who holds this position will provide occupational therapy services to students with fine motor disabilities and sensory deficits according to the student’s IEP, IFSP or 504 Plan.

 

REPORTS TO:  Director and Supervisor(s) of Special Education

 

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE: (These are knowledge, abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have:

  1. A Maryland License in Occupational Therapy.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:  (These are knowledge, abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have:

  1. Knowledge of physical disabilities and sensory processing deficits and appropriate therapy strategies.
  2. Demonstrated diagnostic skills in the area of fine motor and physical development.
  3. Knowledge of and ability to administer fine motor assessments.
  4. Knowledge of and ability to administer sensory processing assessments.
  5. Ability to write evaluation reports and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  6. Knowledge of the IEP/IFSP/504 Plan process and an understanding of the content of the required documents.
  7. Knowledge of the Medicaid billing process.
  8. Knowledge of educational and psychological assessments.
  9. Knowledge of disabilities and accommodations/supports to access the general education curriculum.
  10. Knowledge of and experience working with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  11. Demonstrated interpersonal skills when working with diverse groups (parents, other professionals, students, teachers, administrators, community agency representatives).
  12. Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
  13. Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.
  14. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:

  1. Administers fine motor assessments and sensory processing profiles to students.
  2. Writes evaluation reports based on assessment results within given timelines and write evaluation reports.
  3. Provides occupational therapy to students as prescribed by a student’s IEP.
  4. Provides consultation services to classroom teachers.
  5. Observes students and provide screening information to IEP teams.
  6. Attends IEP meetings.
  7. Develops IEP/IFSP/504 Plans and writes IEP/IFSP goals and objectives or outcomes within given timelines.
  8. Maintains data and provides quarterly progress reports.
  9. Completes and submits monthly Medicaid billing forms and therapy documentation.
  10. Assist with developing sensory intervention plans for students.
  11. Participates in parent conferences and team meetings.
  12. Demonstrates initiative and self-regulation.
  13. Maintains good organizational skills and professional attitude.
  14. Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  15. Comes to work promptly every day.
  16. Works flexible hours as necessary.
  17. Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
  18. Travels from school to school as necessary.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:  (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)  Performs related work as required or assigned by the Director of Special Education.

 

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:  Current Maryland Licensure in Occupational Therapy.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  None

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment. Work may require physical as well as psychological confrontations with aggressive students.  Special Education staff assigned to programs serving students with physical disabilities may be required to lift or assist with lifting students at various times during the instructional day.  Special Education staff assigned to programs serving students with aggressive behaviors will be required to maintain non-violent crisis intervention certification and may be required to use non-violent crisis intervention.

 

UNUSUAL DEMANDS:  May be subject to a flexible work schedule.

 

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools’ salary schedule for teachers. If selected for this position, the candidate is encouraged to enroll in Direct Deposit.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

 

EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION:  School Year 2024-2025.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
