PART-TIME; GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

POSITION : JOB DEVELOPER

JOB SUMMARY : The Job Developer creates employment opportunities for youth by identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships with local businesses and organizations that are potential employers for students of Calvert County Public Schools. In addition, the Job Developer supports students with disabilities as they acquire job skills by participating in work-based learning experiences. This position is dedicated to expanding opportunities for students while managing external employer relationships, gathering information for dissemination to keep Calvert County Public Schools staff informed of employment opportunities and collaborating with all stakeholders.

REPORTS TO : Supervisor of Special Education

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE :

At the time of application, the candidate must have :

  • High school diploma or GED, at a minimum.

KNOWLEDGE, ABIILITIES, AND SKILLS :

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills.
  • Capacity to work independently in the field, and a willingness to work collaboratively.
  • Understanding of disabilities and how to support young adults with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of employable skills and, to the extent possible, matching student interests and skills with job opportunities.
  • Dependable car, valid driver's license, and proof of insurance.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, daytime, and evening.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Demonstrates success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.
  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Outreach to local employers to develop work-based learning experiences, paid employment, internships, and job-shadowing opportunities for high school students with disabilities in Calvert County Public Schools.
  • Develop job opportunities for students in the community by developing high-level relations with business owners, general managers, human resources departments and company recruiters.
  • Customize employment opportunities to meet the needs of students with varied employment backgrounds.
  • Manage employer relationships to promote retention of youth and creation of new jobs.
  • Maintain referral list of local employment opportunities in order to inform students and staff of recent job openings.
  • Placement of students in work-based employment based on a match of their interest and skill level.
  • Monitor students and provide support through collaboration with employers and school-based staff.
  • Collect data to support program evaluation and outcomes tracking.
  • Ensure proper and timely documentation of services including written case notes.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization, including the Secondary Transition Specialist, Administrators, Teachers, Instructional Assistants, and other staff.
  • Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  • Comes to work regularly and promptly.
  • Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
  • OTHER DUTIES : Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned. Performs related work as required or assigned by the supervisor or designee.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment and in various work settings within the community.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Grant-funded, part-time position. 10-month position, $30.00 per hour. Flexible daytime and evening hours required. Position is contingent on continued grant funding.

    References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

    State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.

    House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention Statement

    Pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland - House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention all applicants are required to report all former employers in which you may have had direct contact with minors. Applicants should also include contact information for organizations in which you have volunteered, coached, mentor, tutored or otherwise had direct contact with minors.
