Job Summary:
-
Responsible for performing clinical duties assisting clinicians with the examination and treatment of patients under provider supervision in the ambulatory service clinical setting.

Duties include: pre-visit chart preparation; assisting providers with procedures/treatments; equipment operation; assisting patients; performing venipuncture (as needed), specimen collection and submission to appropriate laboratory; cleaning and sterilization of instrumentation; maintenance, order and inventory supplies; records and documents in medical record.

Assists with efficient patient flow; performs administrative clinical support activities; participates in quality assurance programs.

Education:

High School diploma or GED; some college preferred

Registration/Certification/Licensure:
-
Active Basic Life Support certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program and CMA certification with the credentials of RMA, NCMA, NRCMA, CCMA or CMAA preferred; EMT acceptable; GNA or CNA considered.

Experience:
-
Position requires 1 - 2 years of medical office, with direct patient contact experience, and use of electronic medical records (EMR) preferred. New grads accepted.

Phlebotomy and point of care testing experience is a plus.

Basic computer and typing skills; familiarity with medical terminology, required.

Other Requirements:

Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements.

Excellent customer service skills. Must demonstrate compassion, friendliness, courtesy and tactfulness with all patient and caregiver interactions.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with a team of providers, office staff, and administrators while serving patients and caregivers, and with the ability to effectively engage with extended care teams (such as specialists, insurers, and pharmacies); must be organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting.

Must be efficient and conscientious in preparing for and delivering medical care.

Requires an awareness of patient confidentiality and ability to follow directions well, be engaged and work with minimal guidance.

Knowledge of insurance billing procedures and familiarization of medical terminology.
