Position Summary:
The Lead HSE Advisor serves as the primary authority on health, safety, and environmental matters for assigned projects or office locations. Reporting directly to senior operations leadership, this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the HSE management system, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring alignment with project objectives. This role involves collaboration with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure consistent and effective application of HSE policies and procedures, risk mitigation, and incident prevention.
This is a temporary, full-time position (approx. 6 months or until project completion) following a standard turnaround schedule.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead the implementation and ongoing management of CAM’s HSE Management System across assigned projects.
Develop and execute HSE plans, including Hazard and Safety Assessment Plans (HASAPs) and Safe Work Practices (SPAs).
Provide leadership and mentorship to HSE teams, ensuring alignment with organizational safety objectives.
Conduct site audits, inspections, and quality checks to verify compliance with HSE standards and regulatory requirements.
Oversee incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis using JSIMS or similar platforms.
Lead comprehensive risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for high-risk activities.
Design and deliver HSE training programs to employees, contractors, and site personnel to promote safety awareness and competency.
Analyse HSE program metrics and provide actionable insights to senior management to enhance program effectiveness.
Develop recognition and rewards programs to encourage safe work practices.
Oversee first aid, medical services, and emergency response plans at project sites.
Evaluate subcontractor HSE programs to ensure alignment with CAM’s standards.
Oversee PPE procurement and ensure appropriate safety resources are available.
Manage WSIB injury claims and ensure timely resolution while maintaining regulatory compliance.
Identify and implement best practices to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of HSE programs.
Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of experience in HSE roles within industrial, plant/refinery construction, maintenance, or turnaround projects.
Demonstrated success in HSE leadership roles, including managing teams and driving organizational change.
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
Advanced certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or CRSP are highly preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and HSE software platforms.
Strong knowledge of regulatory standards, including OSHA, WHMIS, and local legislative requirements.
