Activity Leader I
The Activity Leader I, under the general supervision of the
Adult Day Center Director, implements and supports the
activities and care of the Adult Day Center. The Activity
Leader I ensures that the personhood philosophy is
integrated in all day activities and care.
Activity Leader I will integrate the following person-
centered values into all programs and services: build on the
unique qualities of every person; promote social confidence;
recognize and celebrate participant’s self-worth, inspire
hope, recognize engagement as a sign of well-being; and
offer varied opportunities for engagement while supporting
independence.
Example of Job Duties
Conduct the activity program. Direct crafts, games,
exercises, special events, discussions, etc. as scheduled.
Organize and assist with daily setup, clean-up and serving of
noon meal, snacks, and activities.
Enthusiastically engage as a Participant Partner
Assist with restroom cleanliness after individual program
participant use.
Assist program participants with daily living skills; including
toileting, eating, walking and participation in activities.
Work in cooperation with other staff and volunteers.
Improvise and change plans as circumstances demand,
demonstrate flexibility as needs dictate.
Possess ability to recognize signs of illness or fatigue or
changes in program participants’ behavior and notify Day
Leader immediately.
Assist in the distribution of prescribed and approved
medication, including the reminding of participants to dose.
Document these actions with Coordinator on a daily basis.
Provide ambulatory assistance to program participants,
ensuring safety at all times.
Research and offer new ideas for games, craft activities, craft
displays, monthly room decorations and assist in
maintaining inventory of craft supplies.
Prepare lunch and snacks.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate must be collaborative and have a
strong work ethic and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Must communicate clearly, tactfully and effectively both
verbally and in writing; exercise independent judgement;
motivate; establish rapport and effective working
relationships with coworkers and management; be
organized; maintain confidentiality and have the ability to
deal with participants in a caring and professional manner.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work under
pressure; confidence and comfort in exercising emergency
relief; willingness to assist program participants in toileting;
sensitivity and patience to persons with special needs;
ability to adjust and be flexible to changing conditions
which may alter the direction of daily schedule; ability to
keep accurate records.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school/GED required. Nurse
Aide/Caregiver, Home Health Aide/Home Care Aide
and/or Certified Nursing Assistant a plus, not required.
Associate Degree, including courses in health, geriatrics,
recreation, arts and crafts a plus. Experience in the
capacity of Activity Leader in recreation, education or
geriatrics a plus!
Experience: Minimum 1 year demonstrated skills in
working with people with special needs. Excellent
customer service skills.
Physical Conditions: maintaining physical condition
necessary for some light lifting and carrying (up to 25
lbs.) on a daily basis; physically able to assist participants
in wheelchairs; physically able to assist unstable
participants to and from activities and vehicles; stand
and/or be actively involved with clients six (6) hours per
day; move and stack chairs.
Other Requirements: Criminal records clearance.
CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Valid
California Class C Driver’s license. Means of
transportation.
Compensation
$20.00 per hour. 30 hours per week.
Work schedule: Monday through Friday 8:45 am-3:15 pm
