Job Description:
The opioid treatment program Dispensary Nurse is responsible for the safe and efficient dispensing of opioid agonist medication to patients in a medication assisted treatment setting. The dispensary nurse performs assessments, evaluations and administers other medications as ordered by the medical providers in accordance with regulations and standards of practice and consistent with policy and procedures. The Dispensary Nurse reports directly to the Dispensary Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures security of medications, patient records and any other documentations required by the DEA, DOH and all other licensing agencies.
- Dispenses appropriate medication doses and accounts for all medication inventory used during a dispensary shift.
- Accurately record nursing documentation in accordance to standards of practice in the electronic medical records system.
- Organizes and monitors the activities of the dispensary as requested by the dispensary manager.
- Reports to the dispensary lead nurse needs on medication inventory and dispensary supply needs for reordering.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings and provide such data as needed by the team for inclusion of medical treatment plan.
- Administers and reads tuberculosis testing for all patients, including making outside referrals for patients needing chest x-rays.
- Maintain a strong policy knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local rules, laws and regulations and maintains compliance.
- Participate in Federal and State substance abuse training and continuing education as needed to perform in the position safely and effectively.
- Interacts with all staff in a positive and motivational fashion supporting the company's mission.
- Responsible for other nursing tasks and responsibility as job dictates and as assigned by the dispensary manager within standards of practice.
Education:
- Nurses must be graduates of an accredited school of nursing and have a current Washington State Nurse License.
- BLS required or the ability to complete within the first 3 months of hire.
Experience:
- 1 Year patient care experience in a clinical setting required.
- 1 - 2 years Nursing experience preferred.
- Work experience in the behavioral health and/or mental health fields is desired.
- Experience in an OTP setting and chemical dependency treatment is preferred.
- Prior experience in an Opioid Treatment Program is highly desired and will be given hiring preference.
Other Requirements
- Obtain and maintain a Level 3 Kalispel Tribe of Indians Work Permit
- Nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job:
- Much of the work shift is sitting at a desk in front of a computer.
- Will spend some time on feet while interacting with staff, visitors, etc.
- Should have the ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. as may be responsible for carrying heavy files or boxes.

- Knowledge of all federal and state regulations pertaining to the storage, ordering and dispensing of scheduled substances
- Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic medical records systems, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; good diplomatic skills, including strong conflict-resolution skills.

- Conducts all business activities in a professional and ethical manner.
- Experience working in or with federal, state, and/or local government administrations preferred.
- Complies with and is up to date with all other testing, screening and credentialing as required.
