Position Description

Elementary Principal

Reports to: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Schedule: Full-time

General Purpose

The Elementary Principal provides dynamic, responsive, and collaborative leadership to create an optimal learning environment for all students. This role focuses on academic excellence, staff development, equity, and school culture, ensuring that students receive high-quality instruction and support. The principal fosters a positive, inclusive, and engaging school environment, working closely with staff, students, families, and the community to ensure success for every child.

Essential Functions:

Instructional Leadership & Student Achievement

  • Lead a school-wide culture of learning, setting high expectations for student achievement.
  • Guide teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies and curriculum aligned with state and district goals.
  • Use data-driven decision-making to monitor student progress and improve instructional practices.
  • Support and facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to enhance teacher collaboration and effectiveness.
  • Ensure inclusive programming for students receiving special education services and those learning English as a second language.
  • Provide coaching, supervision, and feedback to teachers to strengthen instructional practices.

School Climate, Culture & Equity

  • Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive school environment where every student and staff member feels valued.
  • Model and promote respect, professionalism, and collaboration among students, staff, and families.
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive practices that eliminate opportunity gaps and promote equity.
  • Recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of students, staff, and the school community.
  • Implement positive behavior supports and discipline practices that align with district policies.

School Operations & Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Supervise and evaluate school staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Manage human and fiscal resources, aligning them with student achievement goals.
  • Provide leadership in student discipline and general building supervision.
  • Oversee and coordinate school activities, student programs, and extracurricular events.
  • Maintain the school building and grounds, working with custodial staff to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Ensure compliance with all district, state, and federal education policies and procedures.

Community & Family Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families, staff, and community partners.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families through various platforms.
  • Maintain a school master calendar, ensuring alignment of events and activities with district priorities.
  • Actively collaborate with district administrators to share leadership responsibilities across schools.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Administrator Certificate with a Principal Endorsement.
  • Experience in instructional leadership, curriculum development, and school improvement planning.
  • Strong background in literacy and mathematics instruction.
  • Knowledge of Common Core State Standards and assessment practices.
  • Experience leading professional development and mentoring staff.
  • Ability to effectively use technology for communication, planning, and instructional support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous administrative experience at the elementary level.
  • Bilingual skills.
  • Experience managing budgets and resource allocation.
  • Teaching experience at the elementary level.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, standing, and walking throughout the school.
  • Ability to physically assist and/or lift students, up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, walk, and run as needed.
  • Work in a sometimes noisy, busy, and crowded environment.
  • Occasional travel to other district schools and facilities.
  • Requires availability for evening and weekend school activities and events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $171,831.00 - $182,840.00 per year
