Description of Position :
It should be noted that the following statements are intended to describe the general responsibilities, duties, and skills for the position, and are not intended to present an exhaustive list of all requirements. Position descriptions will be reviewed and / or rewritten once per year, unless significant changes in duties occur.
A. Basic Purpose and Objective
To perform high quality Ultrasound exams in compliance with company policies and departmental procedures.
B. Essential Job Duties :

1. Communicate with physicians and radiologist to accurately determine the examination to be performed by evaluating pertinent information including clinical history, referring physicians' order and protocol schedule.
2. Prepare room for examination, call patient back for exam, enter patient into MI or verify patient on worklist. Enter patient into Ultrasound machine to register for specific exam. Get verbal clinical history, give patient changing instructions for gowning if necessary, explain procedure, and answer questions patient may have. Set up surgical tray and assist Radiologist with Ultrasound guided needle procedures.
3. Acquire all prescribed images and Waveforms for specified procedure following set ACR protocols; thoroughly complete and enter tech worksheets in MI or scan patient worksheet for exam, if appropriate. Review images on Client's monitor to assure proper capture of exam. Assist in accreditation paperwork when appropriate. Verify that all information is available to the radiologist before completing the exam.
4. Review images with Radiologist for pathology and perform additional imaging as required. Finish exam by either conveying information to patient, sending patient to Radiology Consult Room or sending patient home, depending on type and result of exam.
5. Clean exam room and complete Daily Cleaning Log. Perform other duties for exam room as well as office location if needed, to include : stock exam room and maintain supply levels, monitor machinery for proper operation, call for service if needed, assist in scheduling preventative maintenance on ultrasound unit, and do laundry. Follow shut down procedures at night.
C. Leadership : For only those positions which require the incumbent to lead, guide, or train others on a normal recurring basis, indicate the position title(s) and number of employees affected.
- Train new Sonographers on equipment, protocols, computers, and interfacing with rest of office staff.
D. Prerequisites :
1. Education, Experience, and Licensure : Specify length and type of formal education required and / or equivalent work experience necessary for satisfactory work performance. List licensure requirements :
Note : Registry eligible personnel, if hired, must pass the registry examination within the year following their date of hire. Failing to become registered within this time frame may result in termination or transfer to a non-technical position, if available, with concurrent adjustment of wages.
E. Essential Functions :
1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : List functional knowledge, skills (usage of equipment / machines), and personal abilities required for satisfactory completion of position tasks.
