What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at Cambridge Main Street?
Cambridge Main Street (CMS) is a nonprofit volunteer organization that collaborates with businesses, elected officials, community leaders and residents to strengthen and grow the downtown district, while staying true to our town’s rich history. CMS is focused on the revitalization of downtown Cambridge, Maryland, with a vision to advance the historic waterfront destination by enriching the lives of residents and visitors through art, entertainment, cultural opportunities, and events.
CMS is in search of an Executive Director to implement the organization’s strategic goals and objectives in accordance with their mission and the parameters of Main Street America. Responsibilities will include:
- developing and executing community events, such as our signature Taste of Cambridge street festival
- acting as the principal contact for local businesses, community organizations, and city and state governments
- promoting downtown Cambridge through social media, the CMS website, and advertising campaigns
- identifying grant and funding opportunities, grant writing, maintaining financial records, and ensuring proper financial and organizational reporting
- working with the Board of Directors to identify and implement new initiatives as needed
A successful candidate will need to:
- manage multiple priorities with attention to detail
- work independently and take initiative to identify and complete necessary projects
- be flexible, adaptable, and energetic, with a strong understanding of the needs of the Cambridge community
- collaborate with a variety of stakeholders
- be comfortable with grant writing, grant management, fundraising, and financial record keeping
- have strong written and verbal communication skills
- be comfortable with social media platforms, website content management, Microsoft Office, and Quickbooks
- be available to work full-time, including some evening and weekend hours as needed

Employees are paid bi-weekly. Applicable payroll deductions as required by State and Federal law will be withheld from your paycheck, along with any voluntary deductions you authorize. As a full-time employee, the Executive Director will receive Fifteen (15) days off per year, Paid Time Off (PTO) and all Federal holidays off. PTO is accrued per pay period beginning thirty (30) days after the start date. CMS does not offer health insurance or a 401k program.
