ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORT INSTRUCTOR
York seeks an enthusiastic English Language Support Instructor to work with a small group of Chinese-speaking students to improve their English language skills. The instructor will provide personalized support in speaking, reading, and writing to help students strengthen
their English proficiency. This position requires twice-weekly sessions, with a focus on fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct English Language Instruction: Lead structured, interactive sessions twice a week, focusing on enhancing students' speaking, reading, and writing abilities in English.
- Assess Language Proficiency: Evaluate students' current proficiency levels to tailor lessons that address their individual needs and language goals.
- Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback on students' progress, including areas of strength and areas needing improvement.
- Develop Lesson Plans: Design engaging and effective lesson plans and learning activities that focus on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
- Promote Communication Skills: Encourage active participation in speaking exercises, discussions, and debates to build fluency and confidence in conversational English.
- Reading and Writing Support: Guide students in understanding English texts, expanding vocabulary, and improving writing skills, including grammar, syntax, and structure.
- Track Progress: Monitor students' improvement over time and adjust lesson plans to ensure ongoing development of skills.
- Provide Resources: Recommend additional resources, materials, or exercises for students to work on outside of class to enhance their learning.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Be mindful of the cultural differences and language barriers that may impact learning and offer respectful, effective support.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous teaching or tutoring experience, particularly with non-native English speakers, is highly preferred.
Skills:
- Strong command of the English language, both spoken and written.
- Ability to explain complex grammar concepts in a simple and understandable manner.
- Patience, flexibility, and an encouraging attitude towards students of various language levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of English language learning strategies and assessment methods.
- Familiarity with teaching English to Chinese speakers is a plus.
Additional Information:
- Schedule: Two sessions per week, 1 hour per session
