Position: Clerk Specialist (40 hours per week/12 months)
Payroll Department

The Role:
Reporting to the Manager of Payroll, the Payroll Clerk Specialist works as part of a dedicated team to ensure the smooth and punctual processing of payroll for the Cambridge Public Schools. The school district employs approximately 2,000 employees. The Payroll Clerk Specialist supports the overall mission of Payroll Department to provide excellent customer service to school-based and other district staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed in an accurately and timely manner, including calculation and confirmation of payrolls.
- Produce on-line checks and reversals as needed.
- Maintain documentation using the department’s document management system.
- Assist staff in developing excel spreadsheets.
- Develop or modify reports using the query tool in PeopleSoft HRIS.
- Provide file uploads to employee deduction vendors.
- Assist in maintaining the district’s time and attendance system.
- Assist employees with a variety of inquiries.
- Manage MBTA employee benefit program.
- Provide training to payroll staff and school-based clerical staff.
- Other duties assigned by the Manager of Payroll.
Skill Set & Qualifications:
The incoming Payroll Clerk Specialist will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Two years related experience in Payroll or Human Resources preferred.
- Previous experience using PeopleSoft HRIS or similar financial information system.
- Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets.
- Accurate data entry/retrieval skills.
- Strong work ethic and team player.
- Good organizational skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to deal with sensitive confidential material.
- Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
- Comfortable working within deadlines.

Terms of Employment:
Full time position (12 months/year, 40 hours/week).
Salary:
$67,017 - $75,608 annual salary, in accordance with the Cambridge Education Association Unit C Salary Schedule.
