Position: Head of Kitchen
Food Services Department/King School
Reports To: Director of Food Services
Requirements:
- Must be willing to work with others and interact with children.
- Must be able to read and write communications to/from the administration.
- Must be neat in appearance and exhibit dedicated work habits.
- Must comply with safety and sanitation regulations as prescribed by law.
- Must be ServSafe certified or have equivalent credential.
- Must comply with dress code as designated by the Food Service Department.
- Must be competent working with computers, email, and operating a cash register.
- Physical demands include: Continuous lifting, standing, manual dexterity, walking, handling, bending, pushing, pulling, and constant visual assessment. With occasional need for climbing and squatting. Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs without restriction.
Preferred Skills/Abilities/Credentials:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of basic human nutrition.
- Experience in Food Service operations.
- Experience as a supervisor in a food service environment.
- Vocational training, or education in Culinary arts, or Food Service Management.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
- Supervises all food service employees within their kitchen, including both cafeteria helpers and cashiers.
- Is able to perform the job duties of every kitchen position to cross train and fill in as necessary.
- Orders food and supplies on a weekly basis by the deadline assigned by the Food Service Office.
- Checks all deliveries and confirms that all requested items were received in specified quantity and quality. Reports any items that are missing, substituted, and/or out of stock to Food Service office.
- Responsible for ensuring all food items are prepared according to district issued menu and recipes.
- Completes daily production records to accurately track food usage and cooking temperatures as required.
- Keeps daily temperature record of cold storage units, and notifies Food Service office of any equipment issues.
- Follows meal reimbursement standards by following federal and state rules surrounding offer versus serve.
- Documents monthly inventory, including commodity foods, contracted food items, and supplies.
- Submits accountability reports per state and federal requirements as directed by Food Service office.
- Communicates any problems regarding the menu, staffing, or unique school issues to the Food and Nutrition Services Administration.
- Responsible for the cleanliness/sanitation of the kitchen as well as operating within health code standards.
- Demonstrates the district’s high standards of customer service, working cooperatively with school administrators, co-workers, school staff, and students.
- Attends all scheduled trainings and department meetings, unless excused by the Food and Nutrition Office in advance.
- All other duties as assigned.
Salary:
In accordance with the Food Service Salary Schedule.
