The Role:
The HRIS & Benefits Consultant serves as a strategic advisor and operational expert within the Human Resources Office, responsible for optimizing the integration and functionality of HRIS systems with employee benefits programs. This role ensures the accurate and efficient management of employee data and benefits administration while supporting compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Consultant will work closely with HR, Payroll, IT, and City Human Resources and external vendors to deliver effective solutions that support a diverse school district workforce.
HRIS Support and Optimization
- Analyze and enhance the functionality of the district’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
- Serve as a lead resource for system upgrades, configuration, testing, and data integration
- Create, maintain, and troubleshoot employee data workflows and process automations
- Collaborate with Payroll and IT to ensure seamless data flow and accuracy
Benefits Administration and Support
- Advise on benefit plan design, implementation, and communication strategies
- Provide expert-level support for benefits enrollment, eligibility, life events, and compliance
- Audit benefits data to ensure alignment with HRIS records and vendor systems
- Assist in the development of benefits-related training and educational materials for employees
Project and Policy Consultation
- Lead or contribute to cross-functional HR projects related to system enhancements, benefits changes, and employee lifecycle improvements
- Monitor and advise on compliance with ACA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements
- Support annual open enrollment processes, including system setup, testing, and employee outreach
Reporting and Analytics
- Generate regular and ad-hoc reports related to benefits, employee data, and compliance
- Provide insights and analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning
- Maintain confidentiality and data integrity in all HRIS and benefits processes
Your Skill Set: As the incoming HRIS & Benefits Consultant you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following skills and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; at least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in HRIS administration and employee benefits, preferably in an urban public school district or unionized environment
- Strong knowledge of employee benefits programs and applicable laws/regulations
- Expertise in HRIS platforms and data analytics tools
- Experience leading racial equity initiatives in an education-focused social impact organization, public school or school district, or post-secondary institution.
- Excellent interpersonal, and written and verbal communications and presentation skills. Must be an organized, creative thinker and practical doer, with proven ability to build strong, collaborative and effective professional relationships and achieve results.
- Reliability and a strong sense of integrity; ability to maintain positive motivation and momentum even in challenging circumstances.
- Self-starter, driven towards achieving measurable results while effectively generating positive engagement and support among groups.
- Proven ability to work effectively and flexibly as an individual contributor and collaborative team member.
- Proven experience in leveraging technology as a tool in driving and supporting recruitment, retention and communications efforts, including expertise in G-Suite and Microsoft suite applications, previous experience with PeopleSoft, TeachPoint, and/or PeopleAdmin/TalentEd software platforms.
