The Role:
The Manager of New Educator Development will report to the Chief Accountability Officer and will play a key role in enhancing educator effectiveness and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within Cambridge Public Schools. The Manager of New Educator Development will be responsible for the successful implementation of district induction and mentoring activities aimed at supporting early-career educators during their first three years of teaching. Additionally, the Manager of New Educator Development will support the district’s broader efforts to coordinate high-quality professional learning experiences for all CPS educators. Essential Duties:

Reporting to the Chief Accountability Officer, the Manager of New Educator Development will:
- Support school and district professional learning.
- Plan and facilitate professional development workshops.
- Support new teachers in overcoming early career challenges through conferencing, coaching, modeling, co-teaching, observing, and providing informal feedback, while working in alignment with other program elements.
- Develop systems to assess early-career teacher proficiency across key indicators from the Massachusetts DESE Teacher Rubric.
- Maintain records of individual induction program component completion.
- Regularly observe new teachers to assess teaching proficiency, identify areas for growth, and collaborate with school and district coaches to provide targeted support.
- Foster a professional learning community among new teachers.
- Utilize diverse support and assessment strategies to provide on-site and virtual support to beginning teachers, focusing on their individual needs. Confer with them to assist in planning, reflecting on, and analyzing their practice.
- Assist in planning, participating in, and facilitating exemplary teacher observations for beginning teachers.
- Assist beginning teachers in identifying instructional resources, additional support, and professional development opportunities within their school and district.
- Support beginning teachers in developing effective communication strategies with parents and guardians.
- Guide beginning teachers in developing and reflecting on professional teaching goals using the Massachusetts Teaching Standards and TeachPoint.
- Coordinate and deliver onboarding and training sessions for unlicensed student-facing educators, such as substitute teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Assist in planning and facilitating the annual New-to-CPS Orientation.
- Partner with evaluators to identify growth areas and provide teacher support.
- Collaborate on district initiatives to enhance instruction and curriculum.
- Enhance the effectiveness of CPS mentor teachers and help them develop coaching, mentoring and leadership skills.
- Foster personal leadership capacity and assume leadership responsibilities to actively support the overall program goals.
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with school and district staff.
- Stay informed of current laws, regulations, statutes, policies, research, and best practices related to high-quality professional development for teachers by maintaining contact with other school districts, government agencies, and educational organizations.
- Continuously review and improve current systems and develop new and innovative professional development activities and opportunities by staying up-to-date on relevant information and research, including courses, materials, training consultants, and techniques.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Accountability Officer.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Manager of New Educator Development, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- At least (5) years teaching experience in a public school district serving students representing a diverse range of backgrounds and learning needs.
- Experience in organizing and leading impactful professional learning activities for pre-service and/or inservice teachers.
- Experience teaching and/or supporting teachers at two or more grade levels (e.g. elementary, middle, high school).
- Demonstrated understanding of teaching competencies as they relate to a variety of educator roles and grade levels.
- Demonstrated expertise in unit/lesson design and implementing effective instructional practices.
- Proven ability to foster a culture of high expectations and equitable outcomes for all learners while closing achievement gaps.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality instruction for all students, including those with disabilities and multilingual learners.
- Ability to adapt seamlessly to the complexities of the K-12 school environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of multiple roles within a school community, including specialist teacher, paraprofessional, substitute teacher, etc.
- Knowledge of current trends in educational policy and research.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Teacher Status in the Cambridge Public Schools or other Massachusetts district.
- Familiarity with current curriculum and instructional models being used in the Cambridge Public Schools.
- Massachusetts professional teaching licensure (or equivalent, if licensed in another state).
- Massachusetts administrator license (Director, Principal/Assistant Principal).
- Previous experience serving in a supervisory role in a school setting.
- Previous experience working closely with other adults (i.e. a special educator, a paraprofessional, a co-teacher, etc.) to meet the needs of students.
- Familiarity with Massachusetts DESE licensure requirements.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills.

- Coaching and Facilitation: Coaches and facilitates school teams to plan for and address diverse learning needs across content areas.
- Technology Proficiency: Skilled in using various digital tools and platforms, including Aspen, Red Rover, Vector/TeachPoint, Google Suite, and PowerSchool Professional Learning Platform.
- Organizational and Time Management: Manages multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
- Physical Requirements: Able to lift and move objects up to 30 lbs.
Terms of Employment: This is a 12-month full-time exempt position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of the role. As an exempt employee, this position is not eligible for overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience; Manager’s level benefits package.
