What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math AMP’d UP Academy - 7th Math Teacher position at Cambridge Public Schools?
Description of Service Opportunity:
The AMP’d Up Academy is designed to provide 7th grade students with an MCAS preparation opportunity The February program will focus on Statistics and Probability, and the April program will focus on Geometry. This program does not replace any school-day math content, but is intended to complement, preview, and reinforce concepts that students will encounter on the MCAS. Students may also choose to engage with the math materials virtually and receive feedback from an instructor. This program will run during the following dates:
February Break: Tues February 18th - Friday February 21st - 8:30am -2:55pm.
April Break: Tues April 22 - Friday April 25th - 8:30am -2:55pm.
Each day will include two long blocks (90-120 min) of targeted math instruction that is integrated with a hands-on STEM project. Each day will also include an hour of daily prep time, during which students will participate in an enrichment activity. Teachers will provide feedback to students participating in the program virtually, and will communicate student performance back to classroom teachers at the conclusion of the program. Teachers will be supported by program staff, including an onsite program Principal, paraprofessional support, and additional support for STEM integration.
The AMP’d UP Academy Teacher, under the direction of the Academy Principal and K-12 Summer/ Vacation Week Program Manager will be responsible for all duties connected with math instruction as well as other duties required within the program to help maintain and foster a school climate that promotes high expectations of all students. Teachers selected for this Academy will work closely with the math department to develop lessons based on target math standards and complement a pre-selected STEM project. Teachers will receive direct support from the math department before and during the Academy, including: coaching, classroom observation, and feedback.
Time Commitment:
The anticipated time commitment for Acceleration Academy teachers is approximately 50 hours between January 27 - February 21, 2025; or February 24 - April 25, 2025. This includes a required 2 hour orientation, about 10 hours of preparation, 5 hours of virtual feedback, 28 program hours and 5 hours of prep/classroom setup.
Minimum Requirements:
The AMP’d UP Academy Teachers must have the ability to teach students of diverse learning styles and proficiency levels.
Preference given to regularly appointed teachers from Cambridge Public School District.
Length of Contract:
January 27, 2025 through April 25, 2025
Contract Amount
$50.00 per hourly, Not to exceed $2500.00
Please note that your hourly rate is dependent upon your collective bargaining agreement or individual hourly rate. If you are a non-exempt employee and have worked more than 40 hours a week, you will be paid time and a half for any hours worked over 40 hours.
